Hi.

Does anyone know any good FREE software that can directly import X and export to FBX or a plugin for Blender to import X with animations?

Thanks.

Thanks for the link but it is about exporting X. I would like to import X with animations then export as FBX with animations.
The one included with Blender even though it called import/export is export only, no import.
Most FREE solutions I find are either for static meshes only or out of date, no longer works.

Thanks.

Is it necessary to convert to fbx or can it be another format which Blender supports?

Fragmotion can do this, however with the version of FBX that fragmotion uses is not compatible with the version of FBX Blender uses, so you would also have to use a FBX converter to convert from the version fragmotion exports to the version Blender uses (2010 i think it is). You can download a .FBX convertor from Autodesk.

FBX has the best support on Blender when it comes to animations, the other formats are a bit hit and miss with Blender. The only other half decent format in Blender (at least by default) that can handle animation is .DAO which uses the Collada XML schema, but that's only really any good for fairly specific uses like for exporting to Second Life etc.

Actually it doesn't need to be X to FBX, can be anything that I can import in to Blender with animations and then export to FBX from Blender.
I know about FragMotion and Unwrap3D but I was wondering if is there any free solution or a plugin for Blender to import X. I did find some old plugins for Blender but they didn't work.

Thanks anyway.

Fragmotion is free.

They sell it, but you don't have to pay to use it. It's basically donationware.

When you run it without a license it will come up with a box, in which you type what it tells you to type (it's the full lords prayer line by line), once you finishing typing that in you can use it the same as if you had bought it. However if typing the lords prayer in every time you run it is annoying, you can press the cancel button and it will show another box with a 5 second timer, when the timer runs out you can click ok and use the full version of fragmotion, however randomly a smiley face emote will show up at your cursor asking you to purchase, you can ignore it safely and use fragmotion for free.

UU3D is the best solution for importing and exporting as it does pretty much everything ..
Worth every penny and in constant use
