The only way to do this currently would be to create the hole you need in the terrain and fill it with objects that look like dirt. Then remove those items as you dig. You could even use a single object if it is animated to deform each frame I reckon this could look okay if done correctly.

This won't work using the default terrain system that is with the engine. Even if it was able to boolean polys with a C++ hack to the source you'd just have an opening in a flat hole. Cause there is no system to build new plains to fill the hole.

As Dvader mentioned you'd have to create your own mesh with stages/animations or even limbs for this and make them an interactive entity. I wanted to test something out for this sort of like minecraft i just dont have the time anymore however.

Thanks GraPhix! Destructible items would be awesome! Are not any object destructible without being "explodable"?
You where working on the explosives sprites if I remember right.
Is it possible to add a non explosion (no or small sprite) destruction to items?
In other words, they are set to "explodable", but the explosion (and sound) doesn't exist. The sound could be different.
But I saw I think 3com? maybe? working on destructible items. Totally radical if we got some rocks n crates, etc.

On a whole new subject-- I thought of the other day, someone might think a big fishing net would be fun!
Haha, you could snag fish or zombies with it!
Sure, if it was at least 5' long and 2' wide!
