I tried Cube2 from Sauerbraten again after a few years with my Laptop. The difference with my old and new laptop is the immense speed with Cube2 , getting 130 - 150 FPS. What is the difference between Cube2 and GG , is GG more advanced engine with more modern graphic options ? http://sauerbraten.org/

It's difficult to compare the two because they are two entirely different things, it's like comparing apples and oranges. Cube2 isn't a game engine, it's a game that has level editing. GameGuru has a whole lot more to it than Cube2, and at first try won't be as fast and fluid as Cube2, this is because Cube2 is optimised for a specific task, whereas GameGuru is a game making engine, and you have to optimise your own levels. Even then to be honest, compared to other game engines, gameguru is a little slow and memory intensive, as there are various memory related issues, but i'm sure once those issues get ironed out it can be as fast if not faster than most mainstream engines.

GG does a decent job of having a lot of default scripts to use, but yes, to write any game you need to add some logic in at some point. Just start with simple things and work up. There are plenty of scripts around as well to use for free and on the store.

The only recent game engine I have used other than GG or AGK is Gamemaker Studio. Yes, it is significantly faster for 2D than GG and probably AGK (although that is pretty good as well), but it is or was pretty expensive also. I made an asteroids (Stardust like clone) as my first project following a guide and found it pretty good. It looked and played very StarDust like. I did grab some sound and a backdrop to achieve that, the asteroids and other sprites were my own though. It's particle system was particularly easy to use and importantly, very fast. Never got into it massively though and it is not good for bigger scrolling games in general (not speed just the way it does them).

Even with that I had to code though, although they do have a lot of options to avoid actually typing code in if you prefer that. Still, given it was pretty good, I'm still mainly using GG and AGK. In fact, I'm not even sure I have Gamemaker installed at present.

If i remember right GameMaker Studio 2 is just over £60 per export version. So if you want to export games to Desktop it's £60, then if you want to export for Mac you have to buy the Mac export version of the WHOLE software for £60 (you can get this one for £25 on humblebundle at the moment), if you want to export for web games it's £90! Very expensive product.

You had to pay for export modules on the original as well I believe. Exporting windows apps was built in though, seems a strange and a little much if you have to pay to export anything in the new version! I imagine it's fairly good though

I meant you buy the base software which allows you to export for desktop (window and ubuntu) , then if you want to export to anything else you hsve to buy a module which costs as much, if not more than tbe base software.

Oh I misread your post, it did sound though like an extra £60 on top of whatever it cost. I remember it costing a lot more than 60 quid originally (V1 not idea about the new one).

I have been working with Gamemaker 8 a few years ago , nice program. Later I bought Gamemaker Studio for a low price. Gamemaker Studio 2 is expensive , we must wait for an offer to buy it .

I want to upgrade my desktop soon. What is the minimal upgrade to run GG well, I was thinking an AM4 motherboard with a Ryzen processor 4 core 3400 mhz or a 6 core 3400 mhz and 8 or 16 GB memory.
