Hi Guys
I'm working on a GUI interface for setup.ini and later maybe all the other changable ini files, with descriptions, parameters, help etc.

But to make this program usefull, I need volunteers from the community to help update the database.
I've added what I could found on the forum as far as possible.

Download the program, UNZIP in any folder, and run
You can update Sections descriptions with more info.
Please Send me a PM, with the Setup.edt file (located in the unzip folder), and I will update the global database with the information.
I will also send you the download link to the SetupINI GUI Editor

Thanks in advance

PS: There will a simular Program available for FPE editing , with all the FPE commands List, descriptions, parameters ens

Why? Surely the simplest application to use is a text editor?

I agree with AmenMoses, unless the "editor" is a properties editor integrated inside of GameGuru, and the issue of having to issue of having to restart GameGuru when these files are changed is fixed, then i really don't see nay benefit to having an editor.

For the guys who knows everything it might be easy. But for beginners (including me) I have sometime no clue wat a specific arguments means, do or what ever, or what value.. it's not always 0 and 1.

I won't replace a text editor.. its just an easier way of doing for the newbies, and maybe some other users, to edit settings.
Cheers

All that would require is an interactive PDF with all the settings where you can select them to get a description and maybe examples of settings. Don't need a whole new GUI for that.

The GUI may not be necessary for everyone but the idea of compiling as much data on setup.ini parameters as possible is fantastic. If we get a fancy file editor out of that work then that's just icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned.
Intel i7 3700, Nvidia GeForce GTX 950 (2GB), 16 GB DDR3 RAM
...and some mediocre MSI motherboard holding it all together. It's a bit of a franken-build but it's good enough for me.

If the editor were "one editor to rule them all" so that I could open one app and access setup.ini, settings.fx, and create custom .fpe files, then that would be really nice. I could then keep one app on my desktop instead of having numerous shortcuts to various GG files I need to access from time to time.

I think it's a good idea. When I created FPI EditPad for FPSC to write FPI scripts. I actually wrote it for myself. I was ridiculed by some naysayers because they would say, just use Notepad. Well, other newbies really liked it and so I added a whole bunch of bells and whistles to make it easier to use. Then, Lee ran across it and thought it was an excellent tool and gave a good endorsement and in fact, it was on the FPSC download web page so anybody could download it. Also, I was honored when the creators of BlackIce Mod for FPSC wanted to include it in their download of the mod. I'm saying this for your encouragement. If done well, it can be a big help for many including those who don't think they would need it. I was also very grateful to others who helped me with the commands of FPI. I again would like to thank Pirate Myke for his time an help. I mention him because he is doing a good job with GG as well.

This is my future plan.. to get a all-in-one database, with variables, commands, arguments, parameters etc... and a quick place to change something..

Yeah, this mosly started for myself, but I think "some" members might find it useful.

I use clarion Developer from Topspeed (Now Softvelocity) for Database related APP;s. Been using is since late 80' (started 88 if I remember correctly with Clarion 2.0 when I had to convert company IBM Tape programs (Basic) and Turbo Basic Programs.
My Opionion, the Best and fastest 4GL language on the market).

Just to clarify my earlier post. I don't disagree that it would be useful to edit these settings in one location with descriptions and explanations, i just feel that we don't need third party applications that have to be accessed outside the engine, we need in engine options that can be changed on the fly, not outside apps that that don't do anything more than editing the actual file and provide descriptions that by rights should have been in the original text file anyway.

Hi Guru's

The first official version for the SetupIni GUI Editor is finish and ready for download.
Interest members who is willing to help me to add descriptions for help to the ini file entries can PM me for the
Keycode to enter Admin mode.

It will now show you with a green line what has been changed in your current setup.ini and the original setup.ini.
(See attached Image)

It will also create a backup copy of your setup.ini file when you load the Ini file for editing
Backup File Format -> setupini_backup_180908_ 53235.ini
-> setupini_backup_date_ time.ini, No accidental overwrite of setup.ini's

If there is any other ini/txt file, you think we can add to this utility, please PM me and we can chat.
