this was originally posted in the character creator 3 post.
but is not just for character creator or iclone you can reduce
poly in any FBX file animated or static, there are many features
in simplygon , download and install then follow the tutorial,
simplygon will retain animations on reduction.
i am just learning about simplygon it has many features
including merging texture sets into one map.
skip through video about 2 mins to just see FBX import to simplygon.

I have tried this a few times,I uninstalled it more than once it seems to stop you logging in after a while and you have to go through the process again .a few people are having the same problem ,wonder if they have fixed it yet I might try again

make sure you are running the process agent before you start.
it should be showing in your hidden icons.

thank you Devlin great tutorial

I have used simplygon in the past, unfortunately the background process upsets GameGuru, I would recommend installing it on a PC without GG installed.

It does do a good job I just dislike the fact Microsoft have stuck there noses in

I was thinking ahead with the new character creator 3 ,
it can output a single mesh, don't know how good the poly
reducer will be , and the new GG importer supports FBX.
don't know if you have seen the new broadcast from lee
but it might be ok. i was going to do a tut on adding a firespot
in iclone, using a prop, no bone, also was going to do a tut using
akeytsu rigging and adding a bone . akeytsu is great for rigging
once you get used to it and can use the GG bones .

You will have to triangulate your model if requested in Ultimate unwrap 3d pro
before you can reduce the poly count simple to do follow video below .

I use simplygon all the time its a wicked bit of kit can half the poly's in 1 click usually though especially if I use fuse and export out as .obj I reduce the poly's before rigging which seems to yield better results
