I had a go at creating an entity today. I've never tried from scratch before. UV mapping always put me off but I painted this. I think it came out OK but looks a bit like a toy. See attached screenshots.

Its a good start though it looks to have a really high poly count?

Thanks, Teabone. That's a good point about the poly count. I noticed it did impact my framerate. I created the original model in Qubicle (a voxel editor) by importing a photo of the side of a car and extruding it. The result was very blocky and probably low poly so I imported it into 3D-Coat to smooth it.

I also tried Blender which was a nightmare! It kept freezing my computer and even Ctrl-Alt-Del wouldn't work. Plus it's like trying to figure out the controls of the Starship Enterprise. How anyone manages to learn Blender is beyond me. User friendly it is not!

3D-Coat is so much easier and more fun.

You have to bark commands at it and then yell "engage".

Personally i think it's the opposite, it's the most user friendly software i've ever used. Myself, i've never been able to work out how to use 3DS Max, Fragmotion, Ultimate Unwrap, or any of the others. Maybe it's just that i'm more geared to using short cuts than trawling menus. It does help to have a crib sheet for the shortcuts when you start out though, you soon get used to them.

Also, Blender has a set of preset controls, one of which is the Max style controls, you access it via the pop up box that displays when you first load it, there's a drop down menu there, it doesn't completely eliminate all of the shortcuts, but it makes the control method very similar to max and other similar products.

@Wolf LOL. I tried figuring out the shortcuts then barking commands, then barking expletives.

I suppose when it comes to software it's horses for courses. I really like the more visual GUI of 3D-Coat with all its modelling brushes. And when you hover the mouse over them you get a description of what they do. To me it just isn't as daunting as Blender. I'm just glad I found an app I can get along with and have fun with. It even warns you to save when it's getting unstable.

Watch this space for some disproportionate or amorphous models!
