When the public preview was first released we were instructed to change the following settings in the setup.ini file:
forceloadtestgameshaders from "0" to "1"
pbroverride from "1" to "0"
This gave us access to pbr in the public preview. The revised settings worked fine for me until Monday at around 10:am my time. When I decided to activate game guru to continue some work on testing a few pbr models, at that time steam stated they were updating my game guru file. When complete Game Guru would no longer display any terrain in the editor or the test game. All terrain was black period. After a frustrating couple of hours It was evident that something was wrong. The only way I could get Things back to normal was to edit a couple of settings in the settings.fx shader. I had to activate the following settings:
//define use pbr terrain (removed the "//")
//define use pbr vegetation (removed the "//")
Any one have a clue...

Are you sure you are using the public preview and not the beta? Because pp is working OK for me, the beta however is showing those issues because some updated files were missed in the last update (pp hasn't had an update for a few days but beta has) which were waiting for Lee to sort out.

I received a Steam update yesterday which caused the same problem - black terrain. I edited setup.ini and settings.fx as m2design did. I can see the terrain now, but my sidewalks have weird shadows that weren't there before.

@Belidos, thanks for the look, I think (I'm sure) I am using the same public preview 03/15/2018. That is the date on the splash screen when gg loads.
See steam screenshots of what I have loaded.

@ korodai, also thanks for the look. Trust me, this was sudden thing. Perhaps Preben ...

@m2design, had exactly the same problem, and to fix I got steam to verify files.

@Reliquia..
I also told steam to verify files, but did not solve anything for me.
I determined that the problem went away if I just left the pbroverride set at "1" rather then "0" BUT this just makes preben's water_basic not recognize any of my settings changes in water_basic.fx which I have always been able to do before. (water speed, reflections, color, etc, etc.
I don't know but I assume it will get worked out when it gets worked out. Mean while making the file changes mention in my first post will work for awhile.

At least it's just not happening to me.

@m2design, yeah tis broken, if I set pbroverride to 0 all terrain is black and my .x models are working correctly. However if set to 1 all terrain is ok but my .x models don't display correctly at all

Fortunately I have just been toying with PBR and my main project is non-PBR and an inside environment. I haven't really got time for the GG for the next few days, so hopefully it will get a fix soon.

@Belidos, when I ran GG yesterday morning all was working fine - the build was PP 2018-03-XX.
Then I put a new SSD in my system and reinstalled everything from scratch. The GG build is now 2018-03-15, so I guess there was an update in that time. In any case it is now broken....

The latest releases are broken i call it the "Rush To GDC" release , and to make it even worse i just tried to switch to the PP release and it looks like the PP and the BETA is now the same , so all versions named "2018-03-15" is broken.

Story: In the middle of the night, where no one had any sleep!

What happened was a few hours before Lee was taking his flight to GDC ( 5 am ) , a new beta (beta only intended ) was created , i quickly tested it and realized that there was tons of missing files/errors in that release and emailed lee with some fixes , but times went and Lee did not have time before his flight, so we ended up with a broken release. As this was "only" a beta release it was not a big deal. But i see now that the PP also had this update so it is a big deal.

If you run PP (and dont have problems) you should turn OFF autoupdate until Lee return 2018-03-26.

The good news is that i just got permission from Lee to release my branch, that will include new .exe files and shaders. I been working on fixing the issues from the "Rush To GDC" release , and are ready to compile everything up, so i should be able to make this available later today.

Im not able to update this on Steam , so i will include the new .exe files and shaders in a thread.

@Preben, thanks for the info - no big deal as this is to be expected in betas and previews. Of course if it was an official release for a stable version, all the zombies would be after blood - lol.

I still have a copy of the previous PP so I could use that, but I am in no hurry - plenty other things to do

Yep, just had a quick look and all seams to be running good in that respect now

I noticed that there seams to be more jagged edges now, If I get time later on today I will run a test with the PP 2018-03-XX and see if I am imagining it or not.

Edit: Well I was sure I created a backup of the PP 2018-03-XX but nope . Tried the same level in Current Release, and all seams about the same....
