Hi
I would like to start working on something, but DX11 is around the corner. Tried the preview and like I suspected, not all models worked. More than that, I saw no big difference, if any, with the models already in engine.

For example:
1. Will the official packs be updated too?
2. Will there be a tutorial as how to update stuff to work again?
3. How long till DX11?

These are questions that prevent me from starting to work... I don't want to start from scratch, since it's a big update.

People think DirectX 11 will instantly improve quality, but that's not true, DirectX 11 does not improve graphics by itself, it opens up the ability to use better and different media, which may improve graphics quality. If done properly you will see very little difference in graphics quality unless you use media that takes advantage of the features of DirectX.

The purpose of the update is to add the ability to use dx11 features, and one of the primary goals during the update is for existing projects including their entities to look exactly the same as before, only new models made with pbr in mind will look different.

Some models will be updated with pbr versions, and some new pbr models will be added, but most will remain the same so it doesn't break existing projects.

Once it's finished all existing media "should" work.

Hi all

As Belidos said. That said in my usage the existing models look a lot better imo, and PBR looks way cool.

If I understand correctly, the plan is to have both old format models and the new PBR models all working flawlessly together. So you can choose to use a look and feel for your game - Non PBR, PBR, or a Mix.

This is a good thing - GG already suffers from performance issues - so the increased hit that PBR brings (up to 7 textures per model which can't be optimized) will bring a huge FPS hit with it in any serious game project.

This may make GG unique - Does any other game engine allow mixed media I wonder?

With the current PP all my customer .x media works fine and looks better, so when all the issues are sorted Game Guru will be a solid release.

Reliquia....

Well here are all the classic models in DX11 with just a few PBR at the very beginning ..
As you can see pretty much 99.5 % look quite happy in DX11 ..

Actually, yes we can. Considering one of Lee's primary goals in this update was to make it so that all previous projects and media will work just as they did before. However, we can't expect them all to work right now, because the update is simply not complete.

As to documentation, i can see and understand where you are coming from, but i'll stand by what i have said in the past; until things are set in stone there shouldn't be any documentation for them, having multiple versions of documentation from different builds will just confuse thing even more. Once things have been released live, that is when documentation should be provided, not before.
