Ok something different ..
My new project started today is to turn this old Commodore C16 into a Windows 10 PC
With all the Commodore Games, Functions of course
Then Sell It.

1... Stripped, cleaned and reassembled the Keyboard
2... Got the Keyboard Adapter and a DVD Drive ( Although not sure if its worth fitting the DVD )
3... Ordered the main board and a few other options ..
4... Ordered a Dremel ( Gonna need one )

The only person ever to get all his work done by "Friday" was Robinson Crusoe..

Ok so its every step then if your really interested ...
First problem is the keyboard .. It has to be converted to a USB
Luckily there is a board available to convert Commodore keyboards to USB all I need to do is pick the right connection and setup the config Jumpers as shown in the pic below ..

At the moment the power source for the Keyboard is from the Standard USB cable but I'm going to need an internal source from the motherboard I decide to use .... I had to solder a new 4 pin connection to the converter board behind the power connector ... Luckily the holes are already there so I will be able to connect a USB cable from Mainboard to converter.

In order to test it I just plug the cable into the C16 converter and then into my PC which I can report works perfectly
So right now I have made a standalone USB Keyboard from a Commodore C16 ... That's Step 1 of the process ...

As soon as the motherboard arrives I would expect it to be up and running the same day
Until then I will work on a games Launcher with a C16 theme to it ..

Havent quite made up my mind which board I'm going to use yet I have a couple coming but both are obviously ITX low profile.
Whichever I use will happily run the commodore emulation software and games along with Windows 10 and many up to date games.... But I'm not expecting High Gaming Performance here .... it will probably be around the same speeds as a reasonable laptop .. Adding fans wont be an issue if I need to though

@25-WATTS
Yes I Pledged on the original GO64 Indiegogo kickstarter so I'm already inline for my Mini C64

That's the way to do it. not like me, took me 4 weeks to get hold of a Nintendo SNES Classic Mini console .
Looking forward to hearing what you think of your Mini C64 when you get your hands on one.

Ok so the parts arrived about an hour ago ( Including my Dremel tool )
I don't really have time to start much this evening as m still playing with the C16 Launcher which I will show you later..
but I couldn't resist checking it all out ... Here's all the components I decided on so far ...

This is kind of the layout I had in mind but still not sure about the DVD drive .. Layout 1

Most Laptops no longer come with DVD as it seems USB ones are so cheap now..
However my reasoning is simply the motherboard will be easier to fit right in the middle and give plenty of room for a little extra cooling. Here's Layout 2

Looking good. Nice mother board, very low profile and fits very well. We don't seem to use our DVD drives much these days, most is downloads, and it would be easier like no cutting of the case for the DVD slot. The last graphic card I installed a few weeks ago I spent half an hour looking for the drives on the disc that came with it, only to find there was none, had to download them. That's a first not to have the drivers on the disc.

Thanks for the update.

Ok its Sunday and my Virgin internet was down when I woke up this morning only came back an hour or so ago so I have some nice updates for you starting with chopping out the back plate ... Having masked it off I went to town with the Dremel and chopped away

Much easier and less messy that I thought however on the downside the dremel tool died right at the end
Cheap Amazon one I guess but there was no strain at all and it really cut it well ...

Next thing was securing the Main Board so I took the easy route and just drilled some holes for some posts.
Screwed them in the holes and fitted the board ..

So now the Main boards in securely and I'm pretty happy with the results

Finally to give it Power ........ ITS ALIVE !! .............. Now to get Windows installed ...

And to finish this evening up and running with Windows 10 ..
Next thing really is to just clean up a few things, add the launcher and games, make a few adjustments and box it up

...and I felt knowledgable just 2 days ago for building my hardware into a smaller tower Well, at least my gal still thinks me some kind of tech wiz.

But seriuosly! I can only concur with 25 watts. This is seriously cool! ...and strangely enough, at least to me, it looks kinda modern.

Nice going synchromesh. Minus 5 points for using a commodore though, although you'd probably have a hell of a time trying to fit the components into a 48K zx spectrum

I could probably create an Amiga standalone version for you if that's any good

Nice job and inspirational! Looks cool. I have an Intel compute stick that I was planning on using with a small monitor in the kitchen that I think might be adequate for running the low-res graphics of some of these old systems. It would fit in any case. I have 3 TI-99/4as in a closet along with an old NES console and a Sega Genesis console. I just might have to get to work myself.
