Is the glass itself (not the frame) a plane?

Sounds like it's a single face, gg only textures one side of a face, there is a setting in the fpe that forces it to render both sides but i can never remember what it is.

thanks guys I got it to work by increasing the thickness to 2 mm the only problem I have now is if the alpha goes below 150 (from 255) the glass disappears as you can see 150 is a bit foggy for glass, what is the transparent colour in GG is it black? should I use black and decrease the alpha of black?

For future reference, the fpe setting for two sided texturing on planes is cullmode = 1 (not the issue here, obviously).
I found that around 130 was the limit for transparency, and below that is clear. It does seem to jump quite abruptly from quite frosty to completely see-through, and I'm not sure there's anything you can do about it.

Actually it probably was the issue, 1mm in most modelling software is a single face, by making it thicker it will be adding more geometry to make it thicker, thus giving it a back face, and maybe faces on the edge.

yeah thanks for your help on this guys 2mm indeed give edges 1mm did not, UU3D does have an option for 2 sided faces which I have just found lol,
I will try that with a 1mm face because thinking about it 2 faces back to back will make it less transparent than 1 face (I think LOL)

all this experimenting is so that I can make the Moose a single texture but I think I will do him PBR

Nope, won't make a difference, because you will be looking through the transparency of the first face at the back of the second face, and the back of the second face (if you aren't using the cullmode setting) doesn't render.
