Ok so six years after the unfortunate death of Commodore USA 's founder I finally managed to get a brand new boxed Commodore 64X base unit ( lost stock ) and i am in the process of my build
But found there weren't really many sites for support of the original parts, Drivers and OS and as its basically a PC which happily runs all the up to date versions of Windows I figured I would try and combine the C64X support with Windows Emulation using my own standalone exe's and my own C64 launchers

Here is what I have come up with so far ... The launchers are still being improved but you can download the first 10 single Standalone Games.
They should work fine on all versions of Windows

Any C64 fans out there let me know what you think

I had a TI994a, which was cheap because TI was discontinuing it and it was the only computer my mother would buy me, lol. (I was only 13 or 14 at the time; couldn't get a job). The Ti was actually a decent computer (16 bit, 16kB ram stock), and if you could afford the peripherals, it was even better. Unfortunately, nobody wrote much in the way of software for it. I have bought 3 on ebay for about $5 each, "as is", and out of the 3, one works (they also came with some peripherals and software cartridges, in fact a voice synthesizer still in the original, sealed, shipping box. At least until I opened it, not realizing what it was, lol). I have considered taking one of the cases and modifying it to hold a pc motherboard (I have a mini ITX sitting on a shelf) and run an emulator. I just wonder how difficult it would be to integrate the keyboard into the PC environment, as the connections, I'm sure, aren't the least similar. I'm sure someone has done it. I'll look around. Anyway, back to the C64. One of my friend's dad had one and I got to use it, but only rarely. He had a ton of software (adult titles included), and all the peripherals. I was jealous.

@synchromesh - coincidentally, just yesterday I was looking at screenshots of Spectrum games, for a good dose of nostalgic warmth. I've learned not to actually play old games, as old games are usually better in my memory than they are in reality.

i started off on a ZX81, then had (i forget in which order) a BBC micro, Spectrum 48, Commodore 64, Dragon 32, Amstrad CPC464, Amstrad CPC 6128 (with a DMP2000 dot matrix printer), an RM Nimbus (these were basically terminal PC's designed for art packages), Atari 520 ST, Atari 1040 ST/FM, Amiga 500, Amiga 500+, Amiga 1200, then on to real PC's, including, but not limited to; 8086's, then 8088's with hercules and cga/ega graphics cards, onto 286, 386, 486, 486 Overdrive, Cyrix, Various AMD's and all the Pentiums since, every PC i've owned has been custom built by myself.

One of the guys i lodged with (he passed away a few years ago) worked on Colossus, he was one of the engineers that assembled it.

I think at least up to the Amiga games were totally different breeds and I find them more fun than many of the ones I play today
I think everything after that got geared for consoles ( Even PC Games today ) its either more Cutscenes than Gameplay or MP based..
I feel sorry for the average kids that were not around in the 80's for the birth of the home computer ... They missed a great time ..

I remember the TI994a ...a slot for the speech synthesizer on the right that never made the light of day
They will now sell for around £200 if you can find a good one

Absolutely agree, back then games had a fun factor and play-ability i just don't find in modern games, games like Bombjack, and Bubble Bobble, old school platformers that you just got absorbed in, striving for that elusive high score. It's just not the same now. Although to be honest with more and more mobile games coming out the old schools style is making a come back. But i just don't feel that he last couple of generations have the attention span and drive to play them how we used to.

I still have my old C64 and AMIGA. Also a lot of old boxed games...
Still buying sometimes old games on ebay. I remember the day I've bought my AMIGA, Dec. 29th 1987
I paid 1298.- DM (650.- Euro) for the machine, that was a lot of money for a 12 year old kid
Old school FPS fan, DOOM!!! Why GG not working on my AMIGA 500?

LOL, I still consider that a lot of money for an adult, and I am not afraid of spending a lot on hardware! (Nor on software, for the most part)
