"Warning"

Just used the word "warning" to get your attention, sorry.

It would be good, if we could get a "info" before the new DX11 will be released and the auto update starts on Steam...
Why? Because some people already released games on Steam. Games which are running on DX9, so if someone wants to update his/her games later this year (new content etc.) and GG is already on dx11 then they can not update their game anymore.

You must keep in mind, the people bought your game as DX9 version. Telling them, oh sorry, after the update the game needs dx11 and you'll have for sure some unhappy customers.

That's why it could be important for some GG users here, to know when the last version of GG DX9 will be released. Then we can make a backup and copy the folder to a different location.

Thanks
Old school FPS fan, DOOM!!! Why GG not working on my AMIGA 500?

As far as I know DX9 games will run on DX11 you just don't get the bells and whistles of DX11

The issue he is talking about is the exact opposite of what you're talking about here.

He's worried that:

1. he sells a game made in DX9
2. The customer only has a DX9 card (unlikely at this time though)
3. He adds new levels to his game after GG goes DX11
4. Customer now can't play the game because he can't run DX11

It shouldn't really be that big an issue now, the number of people with DX9 cards still is a very very low percentage, plus there will likely be a "frozen" version on steam (this would be a good point for Lee to make a frozen version), so even if he doesn't announce it until the day it's released, you should be able to downgrade.

@Belidos

Exactly, the chance is very low, but it's possible, that some people still use dx9 cards. Or let's say an old OS (Xp) without updated gfx drivers...
A frozen dx9 version on steam would be a good idea.

Also now Vista is no longer supported by Microsoft it wont be long before that wont work either ..

Due to the big NHS ransom ware debacle and the misinformation that XP in some way was to blame (even though 90% of user on later OS versions had not patched yet) and because my current client is a bit dense (large corporations usually are) some lads came around the lab plugging little USB locking thingies into all the PCS (and Sun servers for some reason I cannot fathom) as they were just about to leave one of them said sarcastically "now you won't be able to bugger anything up!" so I unplugged the keyboard and plugged in my USB stick ..... apparently they bought over 30,000 of these little locks, even though the ransom ware attack came via windows file sharing!

(and yes my client has thousands of windows XP machines, in fact they rely on them more heavily than any other PC OS!)
Been there, done that, got all the T-Shirts!

Isn't it already possible to lock-in or roll back to a specific version of GG via Steam? It shouldn't be an issue for devs that don't want to use newer versions.

@Corno_1

Yeah. That's what I was referring to. Maybe I'm missing what all the fuss is about.
