is there a way to have the skybox gently rotate around the game map? I have some nice star/space skyboxs, but they are static, and would look a hell of a lot better with a bit of movement to them.

You can't directly rotate but you can use a shader to rotate the texture on the sky dome. Doubt this will look good for a sky box but very effective on a dome. Check out rolfys galaxy seed sky for a very sophisticated example of this. He has the sky dome texture rotation but also on planets and fog layers.

Cheers.

I do actually have the galaxy seed sky, which is what made me think that there must be a way to rotate it, or something similar. I'll take a look at his post and see if there are any clues as to what i could do, thanks
Also, whats the difference between a skybox and a dome?

A sky box has 6 textures for each of the internal walls of the box surrounding the player environment. These textures are specially generated with the correct camera perspective to remove the 'boxiness' when viewed from most angles.

A sky dome is a hemisphere that usually has one panoramic texture that wraps seamlessly around the inside of the dome mesh to create the sky view. Which is why rotating the texture on the dome mesh with a shader is quite effective with many sky images to get cloud or star movement in game.

Cheers.

Ah I see. Are domes easy to make? I'm guessing you need at least a basic photoshop or other editing programme knowledge. Or would it be a case of swapping images from the galaxy seed set to create a different one? It's not gonna be that easy is it?lol

Zero_HP, I will be releasing a few space themed skyspheres to the store in the next week, had 'em a while and almost forgot about them.

Often a straight panoramic render can work but you will find that the mesh needs to be uv'd a certain way to prevent polar distortions, sometimes you can hide these with a cylinder using alpha cloud or haze texture overlays. The galaxy seed mesh is a skydome which probably wouldn't work as an enclosed 360 space environment.

Cheers Rolfy, if possible keep us updated when you put them on the store, I'm always looking for nice new skyboxes, and you do amazing work

As for the explanation of what would and wouldn't work, I think I understood three out of every four words on average Sorry, I'm not very skilled/technically minded when it comes to any editing/creating stuff, so a lot of the terms passed right over my head
