Quick question. I am about to release a "Free FPS Weapon Requests" thread, while using rigged arms, and weapons that I didn't create myself, but DID make sure were royalty free for any use.

So to dumb it down, am I allowed to make a thread and give free weapons that I didn't mode myself, but animated?

Thank you for your time!!!

I'm going to assume not if you didn't model them yourself. Depends on the license of each. Where did you get them from?

Usually royalty free means only for usage, and not distribution, you would have to look into the specific license agreement hat comes with that model, if you can't find one then always assume that it is the basic royalty free agreement that only covers usage for personal and commercial (in games) use.

Arm models from: https://www.mixamo.com/
Weapon models from: https://www.turbosquid.com/

I'm distributing them for free, and aren't making any profit on this whatsoever, as why I thought it was still ok to use them, but would still like to know if it's possible.

If they're mixamo arms, then no, you can't, here's a quote from Adobes community manager about it:

Quote: "Mixamo and Fuse are in a limited duration technology preview, and during that preview they are available for free, with no licensing or royalty fees, for unlimited commercial or non commercial use.

You can use Fuse, the auto-rigger, characters and animations in any type of creative project. Adobe retains the rights to our software and contents, you retain the rights to your designs and are able to monetize them as you see fit.

You do not have the ability to redistribute or resell Adobe content (such as the assets that are made in Fuse). So this is very similar to how it always has been. Your characters/animations must be in an 'embedded' project (inside a film, video game, 2D print, 3D print, etc.). You cannot sell characters/animations directly."

MUCH appreciated for that Belidos! However, the part where it says I can't "sell" the "animations", is what I am not doing. It could be bad wording choice, but I am neither selling, nor distributing the animations.

So keeping that in mind, what is your personal opinion on it? Since I know I can make the weapons and use it for my OWN project, it just says I am not allowed to SELL them, which I am not, but just distributing for free. IMO.

However, it does also say it must be embedded in a project, which raises another question: If I am allowed to use them in a project, what is wrong with using a part of the character models, animating them MYSELF, and then distributing?

I very much appreciate the responses!

First line of the last paragraph...

Quote: "You do not have the ability to redistribute or resell Adobe content"

Giving it away in part or in whole is redistributing.

It's a little grey in this case, because technically yes as you say it is in your project and they stated you can redistribute as part of a project, but usually when they say as part of a project they mean usage within project, ie as part of a game, rather than actually using it as a base for your own model, your best bet would be to contact adobe and ask them.

I'm not sure but i have a feeling you may be able to use them in the way you are describing if others are unable to extract the original model, but i'm not sure about that.

Found the quote i'm thinking about :

Quote: "You CANNOT share or sell the files you get from Fuse/Mixamo in any way that the OTHER people who receive/purchase the files from you are able to still edit that file. So you CAN absolutely share/sell if the reciever/purchaser is not able to edit the character data.

Non-Editable Project Types (CAN share/sell):
Images (.jpg, .png, .tiff)
Videos (.mov, .gif, .wmv, .avi)
3D printed physical objects (statuettes or something)
Video Games, Applications (.exe, .dmg)

Editable File Types (CANNOT share/sell):
3d files (.fbx, .dae, .bvh, .stl, .obj)
Photoshop PSD (since the 3D character is embedded as a fully editable/exportable 3D layer).
"

I would assume that .X would also be listed in the 3d files part if she had thought of it at the time.
