Mod Hat Off ...

Reading some GG reviews with Whiners complaining GG isn't free really don't know they are born.
Back in the 85 / 90 I was earning around £70 a month ... Any Game creation software cost nearly a week or 2 in wages ..
Who Remembers the 3D Construction Kit for the C64 ... £24:99 ( cassette )

http://www.stu-wilson.com/3DKit_Website/documentation/commodore_format_issue12.jpg

Or the Amiga Version ... £49:99 ( Floppy )

http://amr.abime.net/review_5303

Then the " Shootemup Construction kit for the C64 £!4.95 ( Cassette ) £19:85 ( Floppy Disc )

http://www.zzap64.co.uk/cgi-bin/displaypage.pl?issue=032&page=028&magazine=zzap

They were the good old days when we basically funded the gaming industry so we could have these whiners today ...
Sigh
The only person ever to get all his work done by "Friday" was Robinson Crusoe..

Strange sense of entitlement some people have - that they are owed free stuff.

It's the times we're living in, the last couple of generations have grown up with a terrible "i want it, i want it free, and i want it now" attitude, it's not just here, or steam, or just even the gaming industry, it's everywhere, and it frustrates me to no end.

As i tried to explain to someone the other day, there are thousands of free assets given away directly with the product, say for numbers sake there are 1 thousand models, if instead of giving them away free they sold them individually in the store at the low price of $1, that's $1,000 of product right there for less than $20, if they were to sell them individually at the going rate for models on other stores, you're looking at at least $10,000 worth of free media.

So even if you don't like GameGuru you now have thousands of dollars worth of media you can freely use in any other engine you like. Yet people still whine on Steam that GameGuru isn't value for money.

That's disgusting behavior, when i was a youngster, if i was to make a complaint like that, my dad would give me the slipper, or the belt and i would go to bed with serious bruising, and no supper. Maybe that's what's wrong with the world, a lack of discipline caused by pampering, with nobody being allowed to actually punish their kids, leading to a self important, entitled youth.

I still have the boxed version of SEUCK for the C64 at home.
I paid a lot for game making tools the last 30 years, but I always had fun with them.
SEUCK price was around 25 euro for the disk version, but I never complained that I want it for free...

Old school FPS fan, DOOM!!! Why GG not working on my AMIGA 500?

For many decades some of the oldest clay tablets found were stored safely away waiting to be deciphered as the writing on them was in a language long dead, the earliest tablets dated from around 4000 years ago. Finally someone cracked the language and they are now being deciphered, one of the first to be read completely turned out to be a memo from a teacher to his administrator complaining about the current crop of students and comparing them to past generations.

Calm down guys, matron will be round with the wurthers originals any time now.
Been there, done that, got all the T-Shirts!

GAC was about the same price on the Speccy, £22.99. That was incredibly high for a Speccy game at the time, when you consider a full game generally cost about £6.99. It took a few years for games to creep up to £9.99+.

I think the issue today is the availability of free programs and such, there's just so much around, people can very easily get spoilt. It's the same with Green light stuff people complain about. Sure much of it is terrible, but then again so were many games back in the 80's. The openness of the market meant there were all sorts of games released. In fact the Spectrum used to own the record for the machine with most unique games released for it, it probably still does.

This attitude that Steam needs to guarantee the quality of every game it sells seems crazy when you think back to the old days. I mean I remember the time you had to research a title thoroughly yourself before buying it. If you relied on a single magazine, it could well be you got took in by some of the ludicrous review scores. Have you ever tried to take a game back to your local game store and say "I don't like it."? Not (normally) going to work. So Steam really has no obligation to ensure the games they sell are good or not.

I digress though, I just think there will always be people who like to moan or troll if you prefer. Many probably haven't even used Game Guru at all, just watched a few Jim Sterling videos or similar. I think it makes them feel like they are experts or something. They see a few badly reviewed GG games and think ah, GG is rubbish! I get that sort of comment fairly regular on my youtube channel, thankfully I get good ones as well.

One of my Facebook friends is doing interactive fiction and selling the games on Steam, he made his own engine I think he sell the games for $4
He gets people kindly offering to do reviews IF he gives them the game, I think one wanted $99 and 5 keys to put it on a hackers website.. how cool is that?!
The best on was he sent the last game to Google store for review to see if it conformed and someone leaked it before it was even approved.. he wasn't a happy bunny

Yesterday I saw an atari documentary burying a million games of ET in alamo gordo, apparently did not have the success they expected.
However I consider it unfair to attribute the end of atari to the failure of the game, and especially the author of the same, considering that only had 6 weeks to do it.
