Being a little sensitive about the quality of store models, I would like feedback on a few models I have been working on before I submit to the store.
The subject models are a little heavy on polys (1800 to 2600) due to the nature of the beast. I have used several graphic tactics to minimize surfaces such as, minimal cylindrical objects and the exclusion of bottom surfaces on shapes that have a minimal chance of being viewed by the user.

Have I over simplified details?

@Granada
The majority of my time is devoted to refining modeling skills. (That's my way of ignoring my lack of knowledge with animation).
In answer to your question.. nope not rigged. (like I know what that means)

@Slaur3n
Thanks for the boost
You know, back in my pre-historic time, I would never have thought I could be communicate with people all around the world. Norway huh, son-of-a-gun

The models look great - wouldn't have thought that they had so few polys.

Great job. What program are you using to model.

Rigging is the process of assigning bones to drive the animations of a mesh object.

I could rig one up as an example for you. Email me the mesh in .obj format and the textures. Let me know which program you are using also.

Using Ac3d to model. Sent you what you requested this morning. Hope I got it right.
Always up for a new experience with GG..

At what point does a poly count range become concern? I thought the range of surfaces in these models might be beyond the norm. Not so?

What would a reasonable number be. (if there is such a thing)

Low poly models are usually up to about 2000 poly's, so your models are pretty low poly, you can probably double your poly's without any serious decrease in performance.

Have not received this yet in email.

myke1net@hotmail.com

Also looks like AC3D does not do animations. Which program are you thinking of using for that?

@Pirate Myke

I have done simple animation of Ac3d "X" files in fragmotion. Simple, means door rotations activated by script file.
Kind of figured Ac3d had a few limitations.

The email left here at 8 am. Have had no indication of delivery problems. As far as I know California is straight down hill from Washington, not even any oceans to cross.

I will send it again.

Thanks for the comment.

I can post several other scenes from several other locations on the map, but not sure if that is acceptable in this particular thread.

Judging from the model of the excavator the manufacturer is Case / poclain.
I've worked with these machines for many years, Cat/Volvo/Akkermann/Atlas/Hitachi/Liebher/Clark/Hanomag

I think they look very good only the arm of the excavator seems quite small.
Especially the reach truck looks really good.

Which looks to small , the boom or the stick? (thought I might show off a little with these technical names). Are these part names really correct?

The whole crane arm including the boom and cylinders are nicely done, but the proportions of the whole crane arm compared to the crane and undercarriage looks to be very small.

The name boom is correct if you meant the front piece to which the bucket is attached and of coursse the hydraulic bucket cilinder

Can't comment on relative size of the components but overall the models look very good from the screenshots. Great stuff !

The observation of the wrong boom size sent me of looking for boom dimensioned drawings form the web.
Had to simplify for poly considerations but I thing it is close. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
Included a character for scale.

@cybernescence
Thanks for the comment. I hope to have several more finished in coming days

I think I'm satisfied with the excavator for now. Latest screenshot shows teeth added to the bucket and some additional piping and hose stuff.
Have included a screenshot of the small lumber milling structure that now has my attention.
Thanks to everyone for your comments.

I appreciate your offer to take a swipe at rigging one of the excavators. I would assume Ac3d and fragmotion are more of problem than we thought. I also have a copy of 3dmax but is the student version which forbids my using it for store models, or anything really.

The version that allows a commercial use is more then I want to invest time and money at this time. (Saving my allowance for the new Microsoft studio pc)

I will try to have the excavator, excavatorrotated, bulldozer(yellow) ,bulldozer(red), forklift(yellow) and forklift(red) submitted mid week(I need this coming weekend). I don't know how long the approval time is.

Clever billboard...

The large machinery look fantastic, at first glance I thought you were showing us the things that you wanted to model not the actual model itself. Mike is right these will be great boned up and animated.

I have the excavator and bulldozers now in the store. I hope to add the two forklifts soon.
I will try to tinker with the animation stuff this weekend but if anyone wants to give it shot feel free. The modeling software (Ac3d) I use does not have animation functions as I understand it.
This means dealing with fragmotion which does not excite me plus another piece of software that will add some code to the x file.
It should be obvious I don't have a clue how any of this might be done.

To kill a little time while I was waiting for store approval I thought I might take a crack at a few giant rocks. Also searching my system for the Animer zip file I know I will need for any attempt at animation using Ac3d "x" files and fragmotion. I know I have it some where.

EDIT: due to the simplicity of the rock texture I'm using it appears I can increase the scale of the rocks (in the GG editor) to make them very large and image wise they hold their detail very well.

Now going to prepare the required files for the two forklifts for store submittal .
