Made a level that shows an extremely long loading time for a 1 level game:

level has the following:

152 unique entities
Over 1110 placed entities
a few 4096x4096 textures
Uncompressed size of 1.74GB
71 placed enemies
Several trigger zones and checkpoints

If anyone does give this a run do note its not flat out run and gun, reload between encounters and give yourself time to heal, majority of enemies use a custom script making them fire more often and deadly accurate. Also don't mind the AI (or lack of) in the sewer as they are afraid of water and i will need to work something else out for that. Also Jump has been disabled on purpose and is not a bug

Some optimization was done :

Split enemies into 6 separate spawning groups so not all active at same time
full F4 lightmap for prebake shadows
different AI script for the enemies that doesn't require them to run around (most enemies) and runs a lot faster

Also I noticed in the 2nd set of apartments there is 2 trigger zones that trigger when you go down the ramps off the roof level, sometimes these do not trigger and you have to go up and down the ramp a few times to get it to work and spawn the enemies, going to change it eventually to make it spawn on proximity to an object to avoid using zones

I downloaded and played it for a couple minutes until I was killed. It's late, and I'm a bit buzzed, lol. Anyway, I know Valuable Assets roads use that size texture. I think, though, it's a good thing because it gives the highest resolution to start and it's up to the end user to scale the resolution down as they optimize. It WAS a long load time, although I've done this solely on my laptop. I was getting anywhere from 35-50 fps until I got killed!

Yeah i found frame rates were playable which surprised me on my system for how many enemies there are sometimes dipping just below 20 but. The roads and the apartment buildings are all 4k textures.

2 minutes 25 seconds to load on my machine, started off with FPS fluctuating between 70 and 90, once I got near the AI that dropped to around 40 to 50, with frequent spikes back up to 90 and very occasional drops below 30.

Hi AuShadow

Took a few hours to beat this. Love the level design but boy is it hard.

Tested on one of my computers a A10 7700k APU with R7 on board.

Took 4 minutes 30 seconds to load, and to get it playable dropped the screen to 720p set game to medium and got about 20-30 fps

First few times I played the health would stick on 60 and would not heal until I got shot again.
You have to use the save and load with this game but then it shows another fault. After a load game the guys you shot before the save now just stand and look at you and don't fire. Few other times the bad guys would just die in front of me after loading a save game.

I like the fact there is no loading to get to the sewer level as its all part of the same map.

Didn't like the fog at times looked a bit old with the type of sky you have.

Would not more people see and try this if it was in the Showcase Forum?

I think you have done a great job with this, must have taken a very long time.

Everyone should give this a go.

Nope, not unless i did by accident, i just didn't find it that challenging, except for one point where the position of the next set of enemies was such that you triggered them through the wall to attack by walking up to the back wall of a room way before you're meant to encounter them.

Never came across that, that's an odd bug i haven't seen before.

I had the opposite of that, the two times i died and reloaded from save game, the enemies that had killed me previously came sprinting around the corner almost before i had finished loading and attacked me, a little over responsive there.

Totally agree there. It's something i've been doing in my levels to reduce loading times.

Yup same here, it just looked way to flat against that sky type, i like the fog itself, so maybe a different sky type would make a difference.

I don't think it's meant to be a showcase of a finished game (which is what that forum is for), more an example for Lee to see the long loading times.

Yup, i really enjoyed it, it'd be a great start to a pretty good game if it was developed further.

That's another good thing about the game I did try to break out of the level but couldn't, hard to do without jump.

There was one point on one of the ramps where i fell down a gap between the ramp and a wooden pallet and couldn't get back up, but apart from that i didn't come across anything i could glitch.

On my laptop.

Load time , 6 min 40 sec.
FPS 11.

Deleted all lightmaps:

Load time , 3 min 10 sec.
FPS 20.

Guess that indicate there is some texture swapping going on when using lightmaps. Also mush faster load time.

Amd radeon HD 6700m , not sure how mush memory the card have ?

Loading Time 3:40.
I got up to 70 frames at the start but it dropped to below 30 frames in numerous occasions while outside and in the building on the other side.

Nicely done Aushadow

@25 watts, yeah it took me a long time on and off building it, the sewers are actually placed right out on the edge of the map and a quick teleport gets the player there. Glad it was enjoyable for people and this level when I get some more time I will try and optimise a bit on my end but Hopefully we get some engine optimisations soon as well. Thanks to everyone who gave this a go and glad I could challenge some of you .

@ Preban that's interesting with the lightmaps, may have to run that test myself. Thanks for sharing that.

Oh and i play tested extensively there should be no possible shortcuts anywhere the player can reach. And I will have to find that spot where you can get stuck behind the pallet and rectify that

Ahh I see, I shall fix both of these spots so you can't get stuck behind the car or pallet. Curious, did anyone pick up either of the 2 sniper rifles?

Yes I got them. Used them to pick off the guys on the roof before crossing between the buildings.
