Hi guys, I have notice a lot of the models for roads are either square-ended or based on US roads (Okay if your from Milton Keynes).
We need more realistic roads like in the UK. It would be nice to see more in the assets store and probably snapped up by a few members here. It would also be great to see curves in the road that snap to each other seamlessly and well textured with the dotted lines.

What do you guys think?

LOL, I thought about this a while ago, except I live in the states, and they don't resemble anything around where I live either!

Wow, here that would probably take a year or more! They'd fill it in, pave over it, of course, perhaps in a week or so. Then, they'd realize they had forgotten to repair the water main, so they'd have to break it all up again. They'd fix the main, fill it back in, pave, then they'd realize they had forgotten to repair the drainage tunnel. Etc., etc.! City Engineers, lol.

It can be done, and has been done a few times, but curved road pieces is a tough ask because of how basic the snapping/grid system is in GG, if you want to use the grid system with your models they have to be in specific dimensions and at certain angles, which is quite difficult to do with the length of the kind of curves you need, it can be done, but it's a pain to do and it won't have perfect snapping, and probably wouldn't work on the grid system, I recently tried to do it with my road pieces for the simple poly pack and gave up.

How about making the road pieces smaller? i.e. instead of making a full 90 degree bend make smaller segments which can be added together to make up the bend.

Does the snapping only work at specific sizes, i.e. 200x200 or 400x400.

I ask because I am about to embark on scripting for PMs rails & roads so we can have trains (and possibly cars etc) move around realistically under script control but I've noticed that snapping doesn't appear to work on the rail segments I am playing with.

This isn't a really big problem as I can probably add a bit of fuzzy logic such that even if two track segments are not aligned perfectly the train could still appear to move smoothly over the join but having them snap nicely together would be preferable.
Been there, done that, got all the T-Shirts!

I started to do some UK country roads a while ago but didn't take it very far. Belidos is correct it is very difficult to get curves to snap together, it would be possible to do 90 degree by splitting the angle into two but then if you wanted anything other angle this would be difficult / impossible. Unless the square was filled in with say the sides of the road. I will have a think on it and maybe restart my UK road system.
