I can just imagine the product planning meeting:

"We need our keyboard to stand out from the crowd! Any ideas people?"

"Let's make it quieter than any other keyboard"

"Too expensive"

"How about making the key action more positive"

"Nah"

"How about putting an LED in every key so we can make them flash patterns"

"Cool, like a screen saver but for the keyboard, go for it!"

Morons, why can't I just buy a keyboard with high quality mechanical switches that doesn't make a racket and doesn't screw up at the minutest spilling of tea on it!

IBM used to make them, still got some at a customer site that have been in action 24/7 for over 20 years and still work flawlessly. At a pinch they can even be used as weapons for the occasions where Dwarf Bread isn't available.
Been there, done that, got all the T-Shirts!

The blue ray Microsoft designer key board is darn quit But the function key setup is not really standard. It has taken me a while to adjust.
It also seems to have a problem with multiple blue ray devices depending on the device. I have actually spilled coffee on mine with out a problem, tea might be something else.

Question: has any one tried this device?

LOL, my laptop has the RGB LED's under the keys. When I replaced the HDD with an SSD, I didn't install the application that drives them, so my keyboard is dark. Sometimes I do work on the computer in the dark, though, so lit keys do have a practical side!

i think they were invented for game Streamers. Just another visual element. Like the headphones with the lights as well.
