I'm so glad to see the new random terrain feature is back! I've been hanging on to some very very old maps simply because Ive struggled to achieve the same effects, manually by hand, with the terrain sculpting tools. The old maps had tears in the terrain i couldn't hide. So I'm pleased to see i can recreate my old scenes again with the latest version of GG.

Having a lot of fun with this update!

If a mod wants to move this up to the Product thread if it fits better there, feel free. Might help pull in some people that were feeling recent doubts with Game-Guru.

Nice work! I've kept Reloaded v 1.009 on my desktop to recreate the old random maps. I may be able to uninstall it now.

Me too. Though I noticed holes started appearing in the old maps. So I'm incredibly happy the new random terrain feature is back. Currently recreating all my old scenes. Having some fun with the environmental sounds as well since we have more options to play with in this new update.

Funny how happy we are to get back something that we had ages ago. Maybe Lee should start removing other features and then reintroducing them to keep us motivated

Thanks willipoldi! I'm hoping we can via script be able to change ambient and surface lights and skyboxes so we can invoke different weather patterns and day/night time cycles.

A video I made close to 3 years ago about what I'd like to see in GG. Heavily influenced by the wonders of Skyrim's weather and day night system. I'm not very good at LUA but I'm hoping all the things related to weather and night and day cycles is now possible:

I'm quite glad the random terrain system is back, as doing everything manually was a bit of a pain and you can never really preciously get the same results.

I fully agree with you, Teabone. Without that I won't be able to realise my planned game: https://forum.game-guru.com/thread/216806

I think it might actually be possible. As I can see we have commands for ambient, fog and etc. Unfortunately I do not think its possible to change the skybox in anyway in game? That's the only thing really preventing us from doing day and night cycles ourselves.

I'm not sure how GG handles skyboxes as I've never messed with them, I've just been waiting for those features to evolve, but isn't a skybox or sphere simply an entity? Could it not be spawned and or destroyed/hidden via script (of course, resources would be sucked doing that)? Forgive my naivete if my suggestion is way off base!

It doesn't have an FPE file so not really an entity per say. In Unreal Engine the Skybox is something you have to move around in your map and you can have many of them there (with some hidden and called via script).

I also think the sunlight orbiter is not write-able via LUA. So I think that will only get freed up when Night and Day Cycles get touched off the Voted Features List :/

Till a proper day/night cycle is implemented you could always try this with an ambience cycle set up.

@ Teabone and Rolfy: I know with ambience etc. we can do some quasi day/night cycle. And your skydome is amazing, Rolfy, many thanks! But without access to the sun rotation - and with that wandering shadows - it's still far away from a realistic or at least nice looking day/night cycle. And as I said in my survival and crafting thread, we need such basic things like moveable dynamic lights. So we really need a rework of the whole lighting system.

Its the 5th item on the feature voting board list. So I think around that time it will become critical to throw in as much suggestions and examples.

Looks awesome. How can I create bigger mountains like that? When I click "random level" it has just small mountains...

It would be great if we could get options for the terrain generator:

1. Height limit
2. Slope angle limit
3. Height variation level
4. Erosion level

Use the 'Shape Mode' brush at it's biggest size and just raise the terrain the generated map has made, TADA!! instant higher mountains, move the brush around though don't hold in one spot, or you will start to lose definition.

Looks great btw Teabone
