Just trying and doing stuff in GG is a good way to learn, after making some 5mtr poles and inserting them in GG i realized that the measurement in GG is not metric, one block is 254cmx254cm.

The door is finished, the house for which i made this door is another matter.
Tomorrow it is time for UV mapping if i succeed to do it.

The door is also not quite finished since there is no animation attached, that will be done by next week to i hope.

The house i've been working on.

The door.

If you want, please download it and see if this model is ok, meaning no errors.
I need feedback in order to learn

Can a mod please change the titel of this thread? 'Earthlings attempt to make models' or so

I do not know if my opinion is worth, but I agree with 3com ... good models, but it does not correspond to the style of the house with the door, otherwise, congratulations ...

True, i agree.
I'll see if i can make another which is more in line with the house, i also plan to make many pictures outside in coming days for use with models.

Thanks for your replies

The cottage.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/vwl0yuc8usvivv0/cottage.zip?dl=0

i'm not very satisfied with this cottage, so it will probably change in the coming weeks, certainly the textures baked into one texture map.

Let me know what you think and please give feedback.

Hi,

For everyone who likes them, a door left/right and with a request for other textures

I have learned very much in the last 6 months from you all, so modelling is going better and better, however making good textures is a whole discipline on itself.
So my request is if you are willing to make textures for this door.

That flicker at the end of the door animation can be fixed by setting occlude and occlude to no in properties

Yes, 'occludee' should be set to 'no', i wonder if this can also be set in the FPE jus like occluder.

How is this, Earthling45?
I attached the textures in case you like them.
I didn't take the time to bake the lights or anything or it would probably look better.
(texture for the door is from textures.com and cannot be used for other than this outright without signing up and obtaining it ones self. Other wood textures are from resources I purchased and had on hand from i-source)

Ohh, these are very good

I will change the doorknob to something old fashioned so that it fits this texture.
In combination with the old style wallpaper in the EBE texture source, this really allows for a fun old environment.

I have an account at textures.com but i must have missed these textures, or i simply did not see the possibilities.

Thanks.

Glad you like it. Here's one more.
Be sure you copy and rename your doors for each one and change the name of the fpe and these textures accordingly, as the textures in both sets are named the same as your originals. I'm sure you already know that, but always safest to say it.

do you use any render engines with Sketchup?.. I was going to show you how I do panels but you need a render engine which can do ambient occlusion and depth

I didn't know that would be possible in Sketchup, i've seen render extensions but never really paid to much attention to them because i thought this would be purely for presentations within Sketchup and not for making textures.
I'm going to read up on available render extensions wich can do ambient occlusion and depth.

I've downloaded this texture yesterday, really beautiful for an outer door.

I've made one this weekend with a nice texture and exported it a few times with different colors.
I'll make it GG ready and upload it today.

Twilight or Kerkythea do depth.. it does have a ambient occlusion but it doesn't do what I expected it to
Basically you can render out a surface that has multiple textures into a single image, depth or ao can be used to darken areas, there's a plugin called Sketchuv which can re map your original object so you have a single texture
the trick is to try and taper the sides as you need to render with the camera parallel
the image, the nearest object is the original and has two textures, the middle is the original mesh but the single rendered image with depth and ao, and finally the rendered image on a plane

I use Thea render, but that's commercial, Kerkythea is free, Twilight has a hobby version. and the older brothers of Thea
It looks like KT or Twilight auto adjust the Z depth, the hardest part will probably getting the object in the middle
I usually use
SketchUV
Really useful but beware it can break textures into small parts
Fredo's round corners
I love this tool
Cleanup
Also this one, this is a must if you migrate to other software and back to su

There's also a Renderman plugin called SketchAir but the free one is limited to 1024x1024 and very buggy but it does really nice toon renders
