Hey Guys,

this thread is for once NOT about gameguru questions, or how to do this or that, it's just about me saying thank you to YOU all - The Gameguru Forum.
Without you, my game Hunted: One Step Too Far would not have been possible.
It was my first game and I really want to do another one. I think my game is a good example of what gameguru can do at its current state. Also I am aware of the mistakes and flaws it has. But doing this was really a "learning by doing" experience and I learned a lot about gameguru. It was fun to make this game and I was very excited about the steam release. About 5000 People own my game currently wich is pretty cool !

Again, I just want to thank you all and I am offering ANY gameguru forum user a free steam key for my game Hunted: One Step Too Far.

If you want a key, just write me a personal message. I will reply as quick as I can

Here are some videos about my game and some screenshots can also be found below.

Got it and given it a test. Nice atmosphere, very good indeed. I had a few FPS issues (I'm sure they can be addressed), but for some reason the sound and dark moody atmosphere actually got me a bit involved, despite it's low frame rate, which is a rare occurrence in games! If you have a fast machine I can heartily recommend it!

Here's the error screen I am seeing. Seems to be repeatable here both my tests have had the error on loading level 2.

Here's the effect it has on level 2. Speeds things up a bit, as it looks like it's turned off drawing the the backdrop, but leaves a trail effect. I've seen it before, I've even used it on purpose in DB stuff ages back for speed or to get that trail effect.

Yeah I get that error too, you can just press enter and carry on, so its not a major issue, just annoying.

The trail effect is caused by missing images for the skybox or .x isn't present in the folder or wrongly named.

Pretty sure the problem is the sky, if all images are present replace the .x in your build folder and replace the sky_basic.fx too as it may have gotten corrupted. The .fx message may not mean there is anything wrong with the shader but an error caused by corrupt or missing parts of the skybox, you wouldn't be noticing as it looks like your skybox is very dark.

This is the same problem that used to occur with FPSC. Where as the skybox wouldnt transfer over. Its probably missing its mesh as mentioned above.

Perhaps it's an issue with the new version of GG? As said above the sky is the problem with the trailing effect (or lack of sky really), so it may have been caused by you updating using the latest 1.33 version?

When I first saw the error I though, hello, someones been modding some files here DB errors and all

This is why I would be still a little hesitant to release GG game on Steam, even if I have one finished and ready. The nightmare of unexpected issues. I certainly would not want to be updating often. It would stress me out.

The error occurred in gg also, when I loaded in test mode. The loading stops at "loading new weapons" Is that a hint to something?
I dont have this error anymore ! It's loading normally for me.

As I've seen stated above, this looks like some error with the skybox on level 2. The new GG update has changed some things so it may be the cause of a new update suddenly experiencing issues. It may well be worth mailing Lee with this, he should be able to fix it for the next update hopefully.

Looking at the error, it's definitely down to the .fx file causing the issue. Perhaps replacing the skybox will fix the error? It may need to update to 1.33's new settings. I can only imagine the horror of having a live game bringing up new errors I hope you can get this fixed, alongside any speed increase you can squeeze out of GG.

Does the skybox work at all during test game or are you unable to get past the first error?

It works .. I use this skybox in level 1 AND 2. When loading the first level, there is no error. That makes no sence to me. It should have the error in both levels then right?

I've checked, you're missing the night.X and skyspec.txt files from your standalones files\skybank\night folder , copy it over from your gameguru files and you should be good to go.

You would think so. But it's probably worth checking out your second level in GG to be sure. GG has some terrible bugs with standalone's at times. I've had every level out of 5 working fine in the past separately. Combine them in a standalone and all of a sudden, people are rotated 90 degrees! People lost heads! Not great as I was working on a compo last year with a very tight time limit. I got round these issues in the end but I had to compromise a bit in places.

Still, don't sweat it too much, check with Lee. He will certainly do his best to help you. I am very sure it's probably a GG update issue that may be fixed without you lifting a finger (bar report the issue).

Edit - Nice work Belidos I never even thought of actually checking the files for missing stuff Although I have done it many times myself (normally the black object issue).

Those are definitely (obviously) shader messages from the compiler, but they are warnings, not errors - errors stop the shader working at all. Sometimes other things will kick out the compiler message box and it will show warnings, but not necessarily tripped by the shader warnings themselves. Have you copied the files over like rolfy suggested? Do you get this message box if you change the skybox to something else? If yes do you then get it if you set bloom to zero? Just trying to narrow it down

Cheers.

thx guys Will do asap. Bloom is already off - I've checked the second level in gg. And it loaded just fine. Strange thing is, I dont even have the issue in the steam version. Everything is fine for me. I had this issue in older versions, yes. But I don't have it since version 1.7.

Regardless, I will check it out soon.

PC's for you So many variations. Bring back the good old Amiga/ST days, lol. Much better conditions for programming anything. Also, having proper competition with hardware was always a good driving factor. Not so these days... In fact bring back the ZX Spectrum, C64 days Simple by today's standards, but fun at the time and again the advantage of console like specific hardware

Ok we got the shader bugs fixes , but the skybox is still a problem , its NOT a shader problem , even with a missing image it would never produce this.

So try this:

copy folder:
/skybox/night/
paste:
rename the new folder to:
/skybox/night1/
inside this folder rename "night.x" to "night1.x"

Then in your level 2 , set it to use "night1" as a skybox.

And generate your standalone , ( remember to copy in all the new shaders you got into gameguru before generating the standalone ).

Let me know if this works for you

Tried you level 2 on my Mac, and noticed these HUGE invisible walls , if you make the invisible wall visible and you run your level, you will notice that they actually cover nearly all the skybox , so i was thinking perhaps they are causing the skybox to get culled ? , there was some new culling made in the latest GG version.

Could you try to make them mush smaller ( or delete them just for testing ) so they never cover the skybox ?

Wildshot but perhaps

Also do you see a better FPS using the new shaders ? , i expect you get the highest increase if you use highest settings
best regards Preben Eriksen,

OK, leave the walls in and change them in their properties to ocluder = no and ocludee = no and see what happens. That might stop them glitching the skybox.

Belidos: never tried those commands , but should "ocludee = no" not be on the skybox ( if supported ) , so it will never be hidden by other objects ?

Sky Boxes don't have a properties panel, so you can't set them.

Always best cover all aspects, so i'd set both to no on the wall and sky just to be safe. At least that way he'd know if it is definitely an occlusion issue or not.

Duchenkuke: just make the walls smaller so they dont go into the skybox , this can be a culling problem or a depth problem but only Lee can tell exactly what the problem is

BTW: was working to get faster FPS on the low/medium setting your using , and has made some light improvements , and suddenly i see this "light" i never seen that before in your game , is it just me that never seen it , or has it never been active ? ( checked some videos on youtube and it looks like no one is getting this light ). Just need to confirm if its supposed to be there, and are you able to see it ?
