Had an idea about this small project I'm playing with ...
Just to be different I wondered about switching perspectives between levels for a little variety ... Obviously levels are bigger but just an idea .
What do you think ?

I say go for it. I myself have the same idea. it will keep game performance low and allow a mid pc to run your game. this will be game guru strong point. I myslf explore this idea with an open mind and out of the bow thinking. but one thing get out of my head synchromesh.lol just kidding.

also have you ever played Jurassic park for the super Nintendo? they did the same thing . the over head view was for the outside world and the first person view was for the inside part.

Generally I wasn't even sure if swapping perspectives in a standalone was even possible ...
And then its also a different hud etc to consider ...

But of course for me I really need the 3rd person implemented to get everything I want done
£100 pound Lee ... Will that do it on a spare day off Il pay and we all benefit

A question about the HUD.
At the moment your screen res. is maybe 1080p?
What will happen with the HUD when another user has a lower or higher res.?
Will it automatically resized, or do you have to create all the possible HUD screensizes by own (same the main menu backgrounds)?

BTW. looks great

(agree, 3rd person (complete implemented) would be great...)

If he's used sprites then they're all sized by % of screen, which means whatever the screen size they will scale, if he's using images then they may or may not scale properly.

For the demo I just replaced the loading screen in the 1920x1080 folder
For a released game I would have to change them all .....
Luckily in StyleGuru you add one pic and it exports the full set of folders all resized perfectly in seconds

Actually It was an exceptionally stable process ....
Everything including scripts, huds etc went into the standalone like clockwork ...
So Close to actually being achievable

That looks great synchromesh. What I would like to do is switch between third and first in the same level. So could explore in third person mode but when weapons or jet pack selected drop into first person mode for combat. I've tried work arounds and can almost get this now but can't get collision while in fake third person mode. Anyway great graphics in your demo. Cheers.

Really like the style with the loading screen and HUDs. How did you get the soldier to do third person?

For a demo like that its really easy .. Just add.... isthirdperson = 1 to the fpe
Then just place him on the start marker..
Its enough to create a demo but limited and you can shoot yourself .

Yes, I think so, so you use script to determine use res, and load the accurate img user resolution based.

Great idea mixing person views, synchromesh.

I think the ability to jump from firts to 3rd person in test/game mode, coming handy here.

Looks great. You seem to really like the old Saboteur game. I had it on the Speccy, possibly still about somewhere, I remember it being more hand to hand combat than shooting though Durel Software if my memory serves me correctly.

I had it on the old C64 ( Still do and emulate it now and again along with others )

However to be honest the name came after the plot .... Because the only viable thing I could do in third person isometric is set explosives and solve puzzles I figured I would just have to be a Saboteur .... and that stuck in my head

Looking great synchromesh. I guess you can take it even further with zooming in if you was in a tunnel, etc... Just you and a flash-light
