Hi i want to build a single mesh level with one large atlas texture, and put my details in after. What is the max poly count ,and would x or fbx be better for importingthanks
Edit
I just found this
Quote: " General models should be kept around 500 polygons and characters around 6,000 polygons. "

But i want my indoor level to be one mesh, like so.What do you think the max poly would be,Thanks

Hey granada!

that is just an (outdated) guideline for general asset creation. A whole level will of course have way more polygons.

To quote Lee:

Quote: "The engine uses a 16 bit index buffer system, so if you are using face data (indice data) then you are limited to 65535 entries, which breaks down to about 21K polygons. If you model was vertex data only however, that uses a 32 bit buffer and you can go as high as 600K polygon mesh, but I would recommend keeping your meshes to around 1000-3000 for ideal draw call performance on current/past generation cards.

I experimented with a lot of polygons, I realized that a complete object can be more than 25,000 triangles if the object will be divided into multiple meshes. In fact, the restriction in the 65535 entries valid for a single mesh (limb) but the object may be several meshes (limbs).
The secret to creativity is knowing how to hide your sources.

should be around 20,000 polies per limb. If it is to complex game guru will not render it properly disregarding faces, and the collision will be messed up.

If you build it as floor as an object, walls as an object, columns as an object and so fourth, them you can control collision a bit better and the parts should all insert at the same location aligning it perfectly.

May take several pieces to put it together but will be an easy build in Game Guru maybe 5 minutes in placement.
