We see Oculus gained a good name for its VR HMD these days, but the price of Rift CV1,
$599 is sky high for students like me.
I came across a device named DeMatrix VR on You tube:  https://youtu.be/KpbwFvTwuO4 , said it has totally the same display resolution and refresh rate as CV1 though the price much lower.
Can this really do? Anyone knows about this kit… or if you have any better recommendation? Thx!!

I highly recommend the HTC Vive if your pockets are deep - I had the opportunity to check out this awesome device and the demos that come with it. When people say VR is the future, they're not kidding - it's the difference between 2D and 3D - definitely worth immersing yourself in this world if you have the resources!

I would highly recommend the Deepoon E2. It's worked with every game I've tried. It'll work with Oculus Home and SteamVR. Tie that in with Razor Hydra and you have a decent VR setup. You can pick it up for $250 online

Interesting, just ordered a deepoon e2, been looking for a decent but cheap headset for a while now, thanks.
I would love a vive but the price and the fact my room isn't big enough or the right shape to support the sensors makes it a no go.

Have you managed to get it working with GG?

We had plans to do some more VR before we added the voting board, but the community voted VR right down the list Still an exciting thing to add when we get the votes!

indeed, i think it will be a very interesting experience but i agree with the board, it can wait for official support for now... hopefully it works in some form or another via workarounds already.

No offense intended, but to be fair, VR is the last feature we need for GG. There are so many more important basic features we need. If anyone is voting for things like VR they're spoiling their votes for the rest of us. I'd love to see VR fully implemented, but not until essential features are added.

I saw that Google is coming out with a $75 dollar version of Google cardboard. It's basically a nice headset in which to put your phone. Of course, you gotta have the phone. I have both the Oculus DK1 and the CV1. I think the DK1 is more comfortable to wear and easier to put on but that may be just me, I have a big head, I don't know if that makes any difference, lol. If I recall right the DK1 was around $300. I think that was a reasonable price for the kit (it also came in a much better case) and that's the price they should have been shooting for. Perhaps in time, it will come down as there is more competition.

You can play a built game using a third party app called VorpX. It allows nearly any PC game to run in VR. It's not prefect but it gives a decent VR experience.

I found another 4k VR headset called PiMax which silently surpasses the Vive and Oculus in image quality. Mine's on it's way so I'll let you all know how it is.

I just looked that up. I had never heard of it before. Silent indeed! I am curious, will be watching this thread! I tried VorpX but couldn't get it to work with GG (standalones or editor). I also tried Tri-Def a few years back and it kinda worked with Reloaded, but never could get it to work with GG either. They don't support VR anymore, anyway.

EDIT: Just curious, what happened to the OP?

EDIT AGAIN: I wish I'd never looked up the PiMax. I'm already getting targeted ads in my browser from them! Aside from annoying, I may just pick one up. Sad part is, the ads probably won't go away after I do.

This thread came in with a load of spam ( coincidently all VR ) Although this is an instant ban this post slipped through ....
Because this was answered I unbanned him ....But I'm still convinced its not real ... Especially as they all went to product chat and not the VR section.

after receiving and "trying" my deepoon e2 i can safely say don't bother with this headset... the set up seems simple enough even if you can't read chinese but then it doesn't work correctly with my windows 10 and all posts i've found online for it say to use outdated software which of course you can no longer get... after a day of trying multiple methods and different things i did manage to get some life from it and even steam recognised it but while it would open VR games and i could see them on the PC monitor and move the view with the headset the actual view in the headset was blank - i know the headset works though as it displays the health warning message and videos do play in it.
as for vorpx, it didn't even recognise my deepoon at all and i couldn't see any info or settings to change.
image quality of the videos was really low but that's expected for the price... however for the price i would recommend getting a decent phone and using that as a VR device - pretty much the same in the end.

@SmallG, did you change the mode of Deepoon to Oculus DK2?

I use mine with the latest driver from Oculus. It may be a pain to setup, once it's working everything works fine. It's basically an Oculus DK2 without head tracking. In Oculus DK2 mode, Windows picks up the hardware as an Oculus. You start up Oculus Home, then start up SteamVR and you're on your way.

Fairly recently, Oculus released a debug tool which allows you to increase the pixel density somewhat and this makes the image quality MUCH better. Everything works fine for me.

yep and windows recognised it fine (once i had the drivers installed of course), the issue was that oculus software and vorpx didn't recognise it and steam only recognised it sometimes and even if it did it wouldn't display any image inside the headset... end result: i already sent it back
