I'd go out on a whim here and say yes.
I think he is using the light emitted by gunfire as torchlight. The flash of the weapon so to say.

Something similar has been done back in the stone age.

Just mesmerized by your characters walking animation @rolfy.

Yup, pretty sure it's done the same way. GG just needs some decent particle effects and not just looped sprites then we'll be talking serious business.

Nice work Rolfy and I always did like your cave systems/layouts. I did something similar with a torch
awhile back and dropped the idea for now due to the texture being "washed out" by the muzzleflash.
Hoping an update to shaders might solve the problem?

Pretty much close enough except this uses the projectile spotlight of the fireball from the wizards staff. There are a few more commands in GameGuru all the same that make this work better like fireplayerweapon which can be used to keep the 'brand' continuously lit if you wanted it and another upside to using weapon is ammo count where 'brands' burn out and need replenished.

I was aware that others had tried this before and run into same problems with controlling it but thought maybe third person version would be interesting to see.

It seems to me dynamic lights are years away. Why do I say this? Because people keep voting for crazy things on the voting board. I was hoping once the EBE is finished that the next thing would be improved AI, as it is connected and was next on the list. Seems that menu editing has taken preference now. I really think some people should get their priorities in order. Great! We will be able to make a custom menu, but the AI will still be mostly terrible. I'm sure anyone who plays our games will forgive us as the menu is outstanding. I despair at the voting board often, this is one of those times.

I wish the DX11 update had gone ahead as planned now, at least it would have probably given us better lighting. It's good to see people working round the issues, but obviously having actual lights we can move around would be far better. Lee has mentioned some of the options he will have with DX11 and it sounds way, way better than we have now.

The scary thing is, we can already make a custom menu however we want it via LUA, all that vote option will do is add an easier method (maybe a wysiwyg editor) to do it, totally pointless and a waste of time.

I am going to have to agree with this one. AI is more important then the menu editor which we can do our selves with scripts.

Has it been determined that menu editing will be the next feature to be worked on? What if, say, bots to navigate stairs were to suddenly become number one?

@ DVader
Can imagine you has to count till 100, before posting this time.
You are right about some people should get their priorities in order, and AI is most important than the menu.
Aside note, we need anothers 3º person than the wizards, he does not match nice with let's say, an ww2 level.

@ Rolfy
Awesome as usually!, love the woman animation; mcloth + massFX ?

It's just the next on the list currently. AI has dropped just below it and may get voted above again before the EBE is finished possibly. I hope so, it is a far more useful feature than a menu editor.

Edit - Your post popped in-between me posting this. I sometimes have to have a little rant, especially when I see functionality that is not that important at the moment voted up above stuff that is really needed for decent games.

I just bumped it to first place, that's why I asked if menu editing had already been decided on!

I realized my vote was currently being wasted so I just threw it all behind AI!

It's just top of the voting list at the moment. Basically when the EBE is close to release then they will check the voting and lock the top one in place as the next update. Hopefully menus will drop off the top slot before that happens.

IN fact I just checked the vote list, it's already swapped places with menu editing by +200 points, phew!

Yeah I did the same, I had a few that I felt were important and couldn't decide on which to choose, so I chose them all, I switched them earlier today to just Bots, I think I will just choose the most important for me and vote on that from now on, make my vote count.

Yeah, sorry guys, all my voting power was behind VR and now that other guy is all by himself in last place, lol. Quite the wasted vote, for sure!

As far as im aware AI was next on the list after the EBE but the menu editor jumped above it ...
I think Lee realised this and mentioned doing both in a recent twitch as the editor would be a quick simple addtion ..

The problem is when things get confirmed users vote for the next big thing and it kind of throws it all out

We need smartest AIs, so I decided to change my vote all from LUA to "Bots to navigate stairs / heights".
Hard to do, since I want all the LUA features, amoung others.

I fill there like when I'm in pc store, I would like to buy all, but my pocket say NOT!!!!!

I find whatever is at the top and its reasonable ( AI for example ) i will just throw all my votes at it as well ....
Even though what i really want is further down the list ... So rather than waste my vote on something im not going to get this time round its better to go for the next best thing

Get the biggie out the way then we can fly through the others ...Thats my take on it
