Too late, lol, I went there! Thankfully I didn't buy anything, though. I'll stick with buying stuff either directly from the publisher or Steam. I've actually purchased a couple games on disc on Amazon before and gotten infected with crap from what looked like legit software packages. It's a shame, because outside the malware, the games (Train Simulators, actually) were pretty cool. I still have them, but refuse to install them.

It didn't used to be a scam (software vendors got paid a one-off $500 to allow their software to be offered there for a day) - I couldn't say for sure now, haven't dealt with them for several years. It was generally viewed as a 'loss leader' approach to try and generate some activity/buzz for software (by vendors) rather than as a money spinner. But the only ones who will know if they have decided to submit GG for release there are TGC. If in doubt avoid I guess.

Cheers.

Weird, I have been getting free software on that site for years, and have never had a problem with it.
I guess, to each his own

I Googled it and got mixed responses. "howtogeek.com" actually has an article titled "Avoid Crapware with Giveaway of the Day Free Software" and sums up the article with "We’re not anti-GOTD as they sometimes have quality free commercial software. Just be careful not to install the extra junk if you don’t want it. You will be offered Software Informer and the bookmarks every time you download something from them."

So I think the lesson here is: Buyer, beware! Also, READ what's being installed!
