There's a lot of great tips in there Bolt. My hills always look so blah. Will have to give these a try. Thanks for the lesson.

Thanks Sepp - mind taking a pic of some of your updated creations when you get a chance? I'm curious how much it helped.

Thanks

Great blog post, that I think will help many people.

Can I suggest one thing. The content area of your blog is set with an image for transparency and a colour of 'transparent'. It makes for rather difficult reading when matched with the code snippet image behind. I adjusted the post myself (in developer tools) and changed it to solid black, which made it much easier to read.

Really good content though mate; well thought out and well executed.

Cheers

Jay.

Thanks for the tip. I've been bothered by that part of the page for a while. I'll give it a try.
Edit: DONE! Now if I could only get adsense working >_>
Also thanks for the kind words. Glad this stuff is helpful.

A little tip I discovered playing around with this recently, to get extra crags and roughness in the face of a hill you can take the ramp tool, dial it down to smallest, then find a point on the hill click, drag a couple of millimetres, and let go, this creates a ragged, jagged piece, which you can then use the blend tool to make the surface look a little more jagged and natural.

Here's a pic of what I got in literally three seconds doing this (a bit more time and care can get it way better):
