I think you just delete the supertexture file for the distance to match. That got me as well when messing around with terrain textures.

I get great results with real world textures. As for the seams, I'm still trying to figure a few things out.

Example: I made a terrain set in Photoshop a few days ago. Two of the images are just different hues of the same image. One tiles perfectly, the other leaves seams. Sometimes the seams come and go. Really odd. Hope to figure that out soon. I could be way off on how and why but I believe it is always the Default terrain that has issues with seams in my case.
I'll add an avatar and a real signature someday. I think...

I use some real world textures in my tiled stuff on the store. It's kind of a bear to line up, you have to clone stamp out the 'obvious' stuff that stands out, etc. But overall it's pretty decent if you play with it a bit to make it look good.

Actually most stuff around here uses real world textures.

I thought the same, lol, but didn't want to say... I know most textures I have made for terrains were real world, although my sand was actually a close up of some sugar in a saucer and re-coloured, lol.

Yeah I use real world textures for my stuff, I think it has a better feel than anything that has been created. I beleive that I played with home grown textures a bit when I first started modeling but soon moved on to the real world. This was about the time I found CG Textures, they were great because they had so many seamless textures for me to play with.

I've got something to say - It's better to burn out than fade away.

Looks great, but you need to turn down the contrast to give it more of a real feel.
