I was totally suprised today as i got a new i5 and put in my geforce card and got a slight improvement in graphics with GG i took it out and retested using the intel hd 1gb card (onboard) and then got this improvement from 30-35 fps to 144-200 fps? madness but there you go intel have actallay got better and editing GG is now blindingly quicker

Sounds like a Geforce 3, lol. Intel on-board graphics are better these days, but beating a decent Nvidia card is not possible. Glad your on-board video is good, but you would get even better with a good Nvidia card, probably a Radeon as well to be fair I would really like a 1080 myself Never gonna afford one though

I think your GeForce card must be fairly old, or there is some other problem. I'm not saying that to put down your card, but a decent card that is better matched to your new CPU will really blow your doors off.

Intel has made huge strides in iGPU performance since Sandy Bridge. From what I've seen they can still barley match low-end discrete cards though. I think a Nvidia GT 720 or AMD R7 240 can usually beat even the newest Intel HD 530(Skylake).

There is no Intel iGPU with 1GB. Some upcoming Kaby Lake SKUs will have large L4 cache(up to 256MB) to help with the limited memory bandwidth of iGPUs. Your iGPU may have access to up to 1GB of system ram. New Intel GPUs are neither "onboard" or a "card", and certainly not both. On-die is the proper term as many devices that were formerly part of the chipset are now part of the CPU.

What GeForce card did you have in there? How did other games perform with that card? Maybe your card was overheating or some other hardware issue with the card? I just got a new i7. I might pull out my GTX 770 and give it a shot.

The top of the range Intel graphics processors (Integrated: Iris Pro Graphics 6200) benchmarks to roughly the equivalent of:

NVidia: 9800 GX2, 285, 460 256-bit, 465
AMD : HD 6850, 7770, R7 260, R7 360

The more common Intel graphics processors in new builds (Integrated: HD Graphics 530) benchmark to roughly the equivalent of:

NVidia: 8800 Ultra, 9800 GTX, 9800 GTX+, GTS 250, GTS 450
AMD : HD 3870 X2, 4850, 5750, 6750, 7750 (DDR3), R7 250 (DDR3)

As said above, integrated graphics cards do not have dedicated memory for graphics, they share up to the value specified from the system actual physical memory, do if you have 8GB of memory in your machine, the integrated graphics card will use 1GB of that leaving you with 7GB for whatever you are running.

i5, NV960 2GB, 16GB memory, 2x 2TB Hybrid, Win10.
i3 , Intel integrated graphics, 6GB memory, 512GB Generic SATAIII Win8.1.
Intel Celeron (duel Core), Radeon integrated graphics, 4GB memory, 180gB Generic SATAII, WinVista.
Q6600, Intel integrated graphics, 8GB memory, 512GB Generic SATAII, Win7.

Previous Geforce GT620 1 gb, current Intel HD 4600 1gb and tbh an FPS of 144-200 is pretty acceptable considering what the old machine produced. so it maybe a crappy onboard intel but producing those results is good enough for me for now.

That would explain it then, the GT620 is an extremely low end card, it's basically an entry level card only good for browsing and office work etc. It has a benchmark of 433 whereas the Intel 4600 integrated graphics has a benchmark of 705, almost double.

You really could do with a better card, because although integrated is better than what you have, it's still a very low end benchmark.

Yes m8 i do need a better card but for now it'll do, check the pic thats the fps im getting, so i'll have to be a bloomin good card to better those frames per sec, the main point here really is i was just suprised how an onboard intel could produce those results it went even higher with the terrain off lol, but im having to update the driver as im getting an error, so it will no doubt drop to like 10 after
