I you converted them correctly, they should have animations already, all you should need to do is add the animation frames in the FPE files and attach an AI script to them.

If you email me one of them I can take a look and see if I can find the anim info for you.

The DBO files you gave me are no good, they don't have the animations in them. I would need the actual .x file.

When you import a model using the importer into GG it's good practice to go into the foilder, delete the DBO file, then change the model reference to the .x file in the FPE. The creation of the DBO file when using the importer is kind of a redundant feature from earlier versions.

Personally I don't even use the importer, I write my own FPE, create a BMP for the icon, then just put them with the .x file and textures straight into a folder in the entitybank.

Most modellers for GG now only use the importer to create the FPE (to edit later) and the BMP icon, they don't usually use the rest of the files it produces.

I've just downloaded pack 42 and had a look, and to be honest there's actually no need to convert the models at all, they're pretty much GameGuru ready as they are.

All you need to do Is load then save the .x files using Mender (this fixes the skin weights and stops wiggly limb syndrome), edit the FPE file (the FPE's they come with have some old commands that need removing or changing) and then drop them in the entitybank.

Each of the existing pack 42 FPE files has a list of all the animation frames at the bottom, all you need to do is work out which one is which and create a CSI animation list so they work with GameGuru AI scripts.

The biggest issue is getting the animations to work with GameGurus AI scripts, the models are designed to already have a weapon, but GameGuru is designed so you choose a separate model as a weapon in the FPE file. You might have to write new AI scripts for them.

Dont have mender m8, have fragmotion, Anim8or and some paint/uv packages couldnt find it when i looked for it, just thought it was a shame those models were stuck in a git hub repository and not free for use within the GG community hence starting to convert them. TBH im rubbish atm when it comes to animations, im ok with static models atm while im learning about them but with my old brain things take time now mapping and putting the game together takes me well not long but scripting and animating = cough lol

I've actually found that with the right FPE's you don't even have to put them through mender, they all work fine, with J_C's help with the FPE's I've managed to convert all of them except the villagers (just need to work out the animation frames for those ones).

Oh yeah they're the easiest to do, I just haven't done them yet, I need to go through the animation frames for them and mark downt he start and finish frame for every animation. Just don't have the time.

Formats like .3ds do not save animation information. It is a static format like .obj.
For animated stuff. Direct x file format with the animation options are still you best bet.

We are working on Skinned animated .fbx format.

As Belidos stated earlier. Most of the converting has to do with getting the FPE file right. The X files from the classic packs are ready to go 99% of the time.

Thanks Honkeyboy. Just a stupid question : they act as with neutral AI script (they just ignore the player) and I was unable to kill the mounted orc with 2 full clips of AK47 shot at point range.... Shall I change the AI script that comes with them ??

Try using the script attached to my post, it's a modified version of J_C's ai_fantasycharacter_man_horse.lue (had to modify it as he uses sound FX for his script to make the neigh and gallop sounds, I don't have the FX file or the sound files)

The script I posted is for mounted, I don't think it will work for unmounted, the 42 script should work fine on them though.

Hey i know this is a lot to ask but maybe you could contact Teabone so they could be added to the big pack. It makes it more manageable to have everything together

Any luck getting these to work? I was getting ready to post a request for even just a few fantasy characters because the current options are so limited. A pack like this could solve a lot of problems for me. I'm just getting into blender and a long way from being able to produce characters like these!

@PartTimeCoder so I see. And I definitely agree with you on it that GG is well on it's way to having an incomparable asset library against the competition. Combine that with what some of the members like HarryWever, Teabone, Belidos, and synchromesh have offered for free outside of the defaults and GG is working towards having the best library out there!
