I hope when riftmode is re-established that we are going to see OSVR support. In fact, I'd rather see OSVR support than just Rift support. That may sound strange to people since I have the Rift Developer's Kit but my experience with Oculus has been eye opening (forgive the pun) and I now believe that open source is critical to VR. I hope that VR will not be tied to a manufacturer but will be open to all. Anybody else have any thoughts on this?

I would agree. I have DK1 and am waiting on delivery of the commercial product, supposedly some time next month (which reminds me, they said they would send me an email mid April giving me a more accurate update; I never check my email anymore! Might want to look ) With the Vive, Google cardboard, etc., it makes a lot of sense. I'm sure there will be more in the future, depending on the success of these early versions. I'm sure a lot of tech companies are developing behind the scenes as we discuss this.

Been looking at getting the OSVR too. I love the fact that it is "user upgradable". Don't like the screen res? Pop a better screen on it.

Also, there is a plugin which makes it compatible with SteamVR and from what I have read, most of the games which are Vive compatible, work pretty well with the OSVR.

I've been looking at alternatives to the Oculus and Vive because neither of them are able to ship to my country (South Africa). I was able to get the DK2 without a problem but it seems there's no option for South Africa. What I've discovered so far for an alternative is OSVR, Deepoon E2, 3Glasses D2.

The two strong contenders are OSVR and Deepoon E2 (which is compatible with DK2 software)

It would be nice to get some OSVR. I realize that I am the fun of the Virtual Reality. I know that now people can do fitness using VR headsets, which is cool.

Since getting my Oculus CV1, I've discovered that Steam uses OSVR. Sadly, it doesn't work with my DK1, but does with the CV1. I would think that it would be a relatively easy job for Lee to incorporate Steam VR into GG (vs. building it from scratch) since the majority of the grunt work has already been done. <--this is simply a guess on my part! I would assume, though, that it wouldn't be a 4 month wait for the next beta!
