I decided to have a go at a character for GamGuru and had in mind a Viking Character, I have finished the modeling, Boned and Skinned it. What I am not sure about is what type of animations should I do and what format should the animations take.

IE is there a certain way that it is done in GG. As I have said this is my first so I have no idea what to do next, can anyone help.

Here is the character so far:
HP Pavilion Laptop, AMD A8-4555M APU with Radeon(tm) Graphics HD Graphics 1.6GHz, 8GB Memory, 64 Bit Operating System (Windows 10), 1 TB Hard Drive.

I've got something to say - It's better to burn out than fade away.

Oh! Taz you are not alone. LOL
Would be nice someone with the related knowledge, giving some tips about.

Meantime since your viking (Z-Brush?) is like a midieval char, so you can take a look to IE: Assassin (1).fpe file, there are the anims used, perhaps gives some clues, since you already know that, takes my comments like I'm someone bored, with nothing to do. LOL.

well i should at least make the basic animations, like walk, run, a idle one, attack offcourse, and dead.
The more you make is offcourse up to you and what you want to achieve.
when ready , convert it\save as fbx (2010) version. then you can bake the animations to it.and open it in fragmotion, and save it from there as a xfile.
or save it as fbx. and reimport that fbx and export it in you 3d program to x, if possible.(3dsmax)

Harry
ps a real cool character you made. awesome

@3Com Thanks for that I actualy used MudBox 2016 to create this model. I did have a look at one of the character fpe's but I did not think to look at Assasin (1), thanks for the suggestion.

@Harry Yes I thought that I would start with the usual suspects walk, run, idle one, attack offcourse, and dead. Thnaks for the advice.

@=VX=Doggy Thanks for the the things you said, I am actualy going to do a bit more work on the face so that it looks a bit better.

You could always take a skeleton from an existing character. This would mean having to reskin the model, but it would have all the stock animations and would work with the default ai scripts.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, I assume I would use Fragmotion to get the skeleton from one of the original characters and is this allowed if I was to sell the model afterward.

I asked about this a while ago and the answer was yes.

My pleasure. The stickied thread at the top of the 3rd Party Models/Media Chat section, called 'Game Guru Character Animations: FBX format' has the relevant info.
