So I recently reinstalled the last version of FPSC Reloaded,....and loaded up a map, light mapped it,
and when it was done, it looked a lot better and I got more FPS as well,.....nice.

If I do the same in GG, it does not look as good and I get lower FPS,....so the obvious question is,...
why. ?

We are all ears Mr Bamber.

I have been preaching the sermon of the lightmapping for quite some time now and so far the mighty Bamber has not fulfilled my prayer.

I'd be interested in anything and everything related as well.

The annoying thing is, baking the light mapping is supposed to help keep your framerate up by taking the strain off the process of continuous live lighting, yet it has the opposite effect for me.

The reason lightmapping slows things down is that both realtime and baked meshes are still present in the map.

I to have been waiting for lightmapping for a while. But I agree other then some blending between the static and realtime lighting, there is still a long way to go there. But as with everything else, Lightmapping will get its day also.

A lot of time went into the baking part of GG. It is a shame it is still not massively useful. It did speed things up at one point, but seems to have lost something along the way. It takes a long time to bake even a basic scene with my CPU so I rarely play around much with it. Since the second batch of speed-ups it seems real-time often outperforms baked scenes.

Things are slow at the moment it seems, I would have expected the save routine to be somewhat done by now and be well on the way to something else. It seems it will take awhile longer before we see any work done on the baking system. Probably be working on the list I imagine, I'm not sure what is in second at present.

I think features such lightmapping and others, should be done in a children windows, as separate process, nothing to do with editor, so one do not affect the others, as well, GG is a MDI app.

If you want bake your escene, simply GG open another windows to LM your scene, with all the necessary tools there.
Of course LM should be done windomized, nor full screee, and being able to work minimized, maybe in a memory cache, or something like that; so, you can work with editor meantime, F4 can takes longtime.

So, there also store both versions, Realtime and Bake one, working like "LMbank".
Just my thoughts.

Its the slowest light mapper Ive ever seen. I dont even try to use it. Better off using Giles and prebaking light maps or blender.

I'd hardly call that comment fair, the one thing you can't accuse TGC of is ignoring issues, so far they've been very forthcoming and open here on the forums, I've seen more feedback from them here than I've ever seen from any big developers that have people dedicated to dealing with issues on the forum.
