Hi, didn't know where to ask this... Just playing around with this, first time.

*Where does the Character creator texture save once a char is completed? Does this load parts (ie: head attachment) when loaded in the engine to make the char?
*Also what is the max poly count these Character creator models create?, and does someone know the max amount of polys for a custom character model we can use?

Thanks all.

The characters created from the Character Creator are indeed separate pieces and put together by the choices you choose in combining them.

The textures are stored in this folder:
Game Guru\Files\characterkit under the sub folders of the parts.

If you open one of the created characters FPE files, you will see the statements that assemble them on the fly in game.
;character creator
charactercreator = t.v:2:marine_2_artic:marine_3_artic:none:none:-1:24:19:250:236:3:-1:0:0:27:60:14:13:55:13:-1:1:0

This tells the engine which parts and which textures to combine.

The rest of the texture and mesh information is ignored in the FPE file

The polygons count for any single object is capped at 22000 right now.

Thank you for the info. Yeah I looked at the .fpe
May I ask where the base model texture for the skin (ie: arms etc) is located? if there is one? I found where my custom face texture saved.
Or can we edit the .cci?

They are defined in the .cci files, in the sub folders there.
All the .dds textures are in these folders.

The skin should be in the bodyandhead folder.

Last question while semi on topic? Is the waypoint system broken or am I overlooking something simple. I am using a Charater created in the creator and tried 3 scripts, though I am getting no action. Any ideas?

As long as you are not using the zombie scripts or zombies, they all should pace waypoints.

Are these inside one of the building pieces, that are not working?

In test game you can press tab tab and at the lower left is a debug slider. Setting this to 10 will show you the collision boundaries, and the AI path and range. Look for white collision line blocking the the AI from following the waypoints.

If there is, then look at the building objects fpe file and see if the forcesimpleobstacle = 3 statement is present there.
If not add it for each piece that is enter able that does not. Reload the level and see if the AI traverses the waypoint now.

Awesome, thanks again Myke for info. However all I did was save level, reboot GG and load level, and now he follows... is this a .dbo thing?
Oh and outside on flat tests. I can see now that rebooting GG, clears any .dbo issues..

Thanks again for awesome support help

Thanks for the kind words.

Yes, dbo's are checked for changes to the minute. So if something you changed does not get updated when you load a level in under a minute, then you may need to clear the .dbo files the old way by hand, or wait a few minutes and reload the level.

I am in the old habits, of clearing them multiple times a day when making custom changes.

I find it best to restart GameGuru once an hour, just as a sanity check of modified stuff.

No problem at all. I am happy someone was online to help. I hate making new threads when it may have been already talked about. Though with so many changes since I was a gold supporter, I am not sure whats current or not. And a big thanks to all users and mods that join in on these conversations.
And thanks for your help with Character creator, I am currently working on reverse engineering so to speak so I can use the feature to speed up my pipeline.

All the best Myke and dont forget to get some rest. Legend !
