About 6 months ago I got into game development as a little hobby and after trying a few game development programs (Unity, Leadwerks, etc) I found that Game Guru had the easiest toolset to just build levels in a relatively small amount of time and enjoy messing around with without a huge understanding of programming. Not to bash Leadwerks which is also relatively simple, it seems to lack a active community willing to provide support to complete virgins that have no idea how to start (The Game Guru community seems to be very willing to help and Devs seem to care about their community).

Anyway, I love Sci Fi games and when I heard that new Sci FI Pack was coming out I was so excited (the artwork in the Dev blogs looked great) and bought it the day it came out despite suffering from a chest infection and spending the whole day in bed (I got up just to buy it on Steam!). I wasn't disappointed and Lee's demo level was great! While I do like games where you can't shoot, I was a little disappointed to find that there was no weapons or combat enemies in this pack as I was hoping to make a Sci-Fi shooter game myself.

I am currently building a level in the Sci-Fi theme with all the new lovely assets, which really surpass all the other packs in terms of detail and art, but I was wondering whether there will be any updates in regards to the new DLC? I know that Lee mentioned adding in a transporter (that I will be using), but will there be anymore planned? I can remember seeing artwork in the blog posts for Drones and Weapons, will we be seeing them in the SCI-FI pack or a new pack soon? How about combat enemies or at least the ability to create characters in the creator that don't use the default modern weapons?

Sorry if this seems long btw, keep up the excellent work!. Thank You!

there is a scifi weapons pack from BSP which is already very nice but yes i hope in future GG will be much more open to more weapons.
and the enemies would probably already support using weapons if they have the stock animations - i dont own the pack yet so not sure but i remember the parts were added to the character creator anyway so technically even if they dont you can just create your own that do.
(just add a weapon in the .fpe file - look for "hasweapon = " use a stock character .fpe as a reference)

DLC will always get updates as the new media become ready and tested, at no extra cost, if you own them.

And for a while, until more sci-fi weapons come out within the pack, you could use the free 'futuretek' sci-fi shotgun ( https://en.tgcstore.net/product/17764 ) and assign this to the sci-fi characters as smallg mentioned (if you don't have BSP's excellent scifi guns). If you assign the ai_soldier script the new characters will attack you as per the other soldier characters, so you can make a shooter/combat game now.

Cheers.

Thanks for the quick replies. I am in no rush, I haven't even finished one level yet. One of the reasons I was excited for the new DLC was the cool looking drones and weapons, they looked really cool. I was just curious to know what happened to them since I was kinda bummed out when they weren't included in the pack.

I already own the futuretek shotgun, so I will have a mess around in the files. I was thinking of getting the BSP weapons pack but decided to hold out when they teased the Sci-Fi DLC because I figured they would have something included. I may still get them, I assume they can be added to enemies the same way the Futuretek can be? But, I'm in no rush, I may just wait and see what updates the Sci-fi DLC gets.

Yes, adding them into the FPE file should do the trick for them. delete the .dbo file after adding the change, then re test them.

Thank you Myke. I will try doing it for the futuretek and if I can get that working have a go with the BSP pack (it's only 8 bucks anyway). Will let you know if I get stuck. Cheers!

I just tired it out as a test and it works fine (it looks a little bulky) with only one issue with the futuretek shotgun, their doesn't seem to be a projectile animation or muzzle flash. BTW what did you mean by deleting .dbo file? Where is this file located? Also it seems the npc will only attack you if they are literally standing next to you lol

All could be customized to fit the specific AI_bot's size. Would take a little work but rigging or animation needed.

For muzzle flash would have to change some settings in the Future teks gunspec.txt file.

Projectiles coming from the AI would have to be set up like the RPG weapon. It is a flak weapon and therefore has the model and the setup for doing the projectile.

What the .dbo file is, if it is there is the programs compile of the mesh for faster loading. These are supposed to be updated when you load a map file. but in development with rapid changes and testing under a minute, these might not get updated properly. So when doing this, as a old habit from classic and reloaded, If they are present, just delete them and reload the map.

There is definitely a little SCIFI DLC update coming, but no guns alas. I almost forgot about the drones, so I will chase that content and see if we can get it into the update as well. To create characters that will fight you in the SCIFI setting, go to the character creator and create one from the SCIFI body parts selection and then set the weapon (bottom right) to something like the UZI or COLT. This will allow them to shoot at you when in the game. If you then want a different weapon, as suggested above, you can edit the FPE that gets created by the character creator and change UZI for another weapon you have in your gamecore\guns\ folder such as 'futuristic\FuturetekShotgun' which is a pretty mean weapon!

Thanks for the response Lee. I'm glad the drones will make it in at some point, as well as the transporter you mentioned. I was kind of confused when I bought the SCI-FI DLC and didn't see the drones included since you talked about them in your December blog posts being part of the pack. Kind of disappointed you don't have any plans to release any SCI-FI weapons, especially when I saw that 'Merry Christmas' art with the spaceman holding that badass looking rifle. I love that thing!

I have been messing around with FPE files and character creator, but I'm not really too bothered about it at the moment since I have just been building environments for now, so I will hold out for a while until I'm ready to populate them with suitable enemies. I will decide what to do when I get to that bridge so to speak. I'm making things up as I go along so my ideas may evolve.

Cheers!
