Hi all,

I saw 3D Coat looks pretty interesting as a modeling/texturing tool, but from what I see, it seems to like doing high poly count organic type models... though it seems that it's intended for retopology, so low poly work should be possible.

Are there any models available in the store that were made in 3D Coat?

Hey Bisella, you mean you used it with Game Guru?

What were the results like? Was it easy to export and move into GG?

3D coat is a fantastic tool for creating models, but I think that generaly it creates models that are a bit high in poly count for GG. As Bisella has said you would be better off with somthing like Blender to create the models.

Substance painter is also a great tool for painting the object, I use it myself and have put quite a few entities in the store with the textures from this tool.

@sms ...yes i used with game guru (I used it last year) but 3d coat do not export to direct x format....

I created the model in blender .... exported in 3DS ( maybe obj ) I imported the model in 3d coat and textured .
I exported the model in 3ds and imported back into blender .
I exported the model directx and imported game guru

Maybe you can export from 3dcoat directly in 3ds format and import in gg....but whit the 3ds importer of gg you don't have the full control of the model.

3dcoat is really a great software but i think substance painter is better or maye quixel http://quixel.se/ddo

on the net i found this software http://www.blacksmith3d.com/

forgive my english

Well I found Substance Painter a lot easir to learn than Quixel Suite and if you buy the Indie version you can still use it for commercial purposes and get it a lot cheaper. The Indie version also includes Substance Painter, Substance Designer and Substance B2M.

I bought it on a monthly licence and have been using it for about 6 months now. Basical you just export your model to one of quite a few types that Substance can import after you have unwraped your model. Once in the Painter you can then choose to paint part of the model by creating a Fill Layer and using a mask to mask the area you want to paint or not paint, or you can paint the whole of the model with what they call smart material. There are also a lot of brush types to use if you want to get close up and do any extra work that would make the model that much beter.

Once you have finished texturing / painting the model it is an easy step then to export the material to png, jpeg, bmp, ppm or many others.

There is a lot more to it than that obviously but those are the basics. What I love about this program is that there are a lot of textures / materials already installed and you can get more via the Substance Share that also allow you to use the textures / materials commercialy.

Allegorithmic also have a lot of tutorials to help you get to grips with there software and the forums they have are very helpfull.

Obviously I have decided to use this software and am biased but they do have a full featured trial version of the software. The best way is for you to download this, check out some of the tutorials and see what you think of it for yourself.

I love Substance Painter, and the tutorials are excellent. I can't compare it to other 3d painting programs, since I've never tried any others, but SP is a joy to use.

@3com - I really don't know - I only export the diffuse, normal and specular maps, but there are stacks of other export options which I haven't looked at.

@3com What you do is create the map in your favourite 3d program and then export the model out to Substance. You then texture / paint the model in SP and when finished you then export the material / texture on the uv mapped coordinates which you can then use in GameGuru.

I just use Blender and PSP generally. Mindtex for normals and such, to speed things up, although you can make them manually in Gimp.
