After talking to Wolf and taking a lot of inspiration from the excellent artist on here, I've finally taken the plunge and started to model for the GG store.

Anyone that knows me or follows my projects will know that well in to the fantasy genre so I'm using this experience to get out of my comfort zone and broaden my modelling horizons and try learn / progress as I go.

First up SciFi shipping container / crate.

Any comments good or bad are most welcomed, if you want me to model anything, any genre for the store let me know.(sorry I don't do characters at this time)

That's pretty good Emrys, wsih I could texture like that.

I'm still trying to work out how to make an illumination map, I know it's a dark to light scale for the glowing object with black on everything else, saved as filename_I.dds but I haven't worked out what to use to make it, or how to do it in gimp if I can.

Thanks Belidos, keep at it, it will come, I started modeling exactly as your doing now. I did a quick tutorial for illumination maps on page 2 of my game thread here >>>> https://forum.game-guru.com/thread/213439 if it helps.

I was hoping you would get into selling some of your creations Emrys as they always look fantastic in your wip threads. .

Thanks for the info Emrys, I think I've got it now.

Basically fill the UV layer on the diffuse image for the part you want to glow with the colour you want it to glow and save it.

Then on a new image fill the inside of a copy of the same UV layer with white (scaled to grey if you want) and the outside of the UV layer to with black, then save as filename_I.dds.

Is that right?

@Belidos, Yeah, don't forget to set the entity shader to high and play with the bloom slider to get your glow looking right.

@cybernescence, thanks for your support.

This is fantastic - I'm thrilled you've started a thread and are now pursuing the store. We need more quality content up on there. I will be watching your development closely, you have tremendous talent! Would love to see some Sci-Fi buildings.

I don't think I am worthy, but I'll buy them anyway

What "we" need is more steampunk assets

Thanks, that helped a lot, however I've just noticed MindTex is on sale for £8.24 on Steam, apparently it's very good for making normal, specular and illumination maps, very much like Crazy Bump but a fraction of the price, so i'll give that a go.

@HarryWever, Many thanks Harry.

@teamhalo, Wow thanks, I've been asked a few times if I could make some models but I didn't feel confident enough at the time. Thanks for the idea of making some buildings, I'll put it on the list.

@Johno 15, lol thanks, it was more the other way around, I didn't think my models were worthy !

@cybernescence, PM on it's way to you.

@Belidos, Great, I've you MindTex in the past, it's a great little program.

Thanks for the support everyone

I've decided to add some pipes that you can use with the crate or with your level, I will add more angles and joining pieces.

In GG screenshot

Slight texture issue that needs fixing.

Ok the initial thought was 'that box is really detailed, looks good' --- quickly devolved into "those tubes are frickin' awesome!" ... so yeah, this is good stuff

I like the texturing and materials usage, illumination looks good too. I'd find a home for it, for sure.

Thanks guys, much appreciated

Scifi pipes nearly finished. The pack will have various bends and parts to make your own pipes, also 4 Illumination maps red, green, purple and blue. I will updated the pack with more colours or bends if need.

My next work in progress is a modular industrial building, screenshots below was made with 8 pieces, textures & models are only rough for testing. There will also be a full interior and various different roofs.
