Ya, it looks like undefined error, meaning it could be any issue. So the cause can be one for me, and another different one for you.

I've experienced sometimes that error. I've noticed GG getting error, when I run Bandicam while GG is open.

I thought because both working with DX, It looks like GG want to to be the only one, using DX.

Edit: do you tried running GG as admin?

Any info in 'Guru-MapEditor.log'?
What was the last thing you were working with before this started?
Delete local content, then run CCleaner on your registry and reinstall?

Quote: " 'Guru-MapEditor.log'? "

should be in the steam folder right along with the core files? i dont have 1.

Quote: "What was the last thing you were working with before this started?"

i can't remember as it was few days ago but it was all fine as far as i recall and i havent added anything new or made changes to the core product... my intuition is telling me it must be an external program causing the issue but i can't think of anything that i have changed.

Quote: "Delete local content, then run CCleaner on your registry"

good advice but i have already tried it along with many verifications via steam
Quote: " and reinstall?"

i'm currently doing a clean install of GG and will see if that will run, that way i will know if it's an outside issue or something corrupt in my old files that isn't getting caught by steam.
just need to wait 4hours for it to download

Does this happens running GG directly from exe file, or thru steam?
Does you got some steam update before that issue starting?
Any corrupted map? if so, remove it, and try again:

Are you willing to remove all the entity stuff, and adding one by one and try, if work, try the next one, till you get the culprit?
If you run fresh install, then you can do so, with stuff.

You should have "Guru-MapEditor.txt" file telling something like:

Quote: "277574313 : Terminated because 908=1"

in the last line.

A long shot but have you tried reinstalling your DX9 Runtime files ...
You can manually reinstall them from your GameGuru _CommonRedist / DirectX folder...

Just a thought ..

tried a clean version of GG and still the same error

that actually updated a load of files but still giving the same error after, i'm thinking i must have removed a game that removed dx9 somehow, is there any other requirements for GG? i already did the vcredist as well but that didnt help.

Perhaps nothing to do, but I remember you removing some "d3dx9.dll" file, to try AAA lights...

Did you tried running GG from their exe file, instead of thru steam?

Do you considere restore pc to a safe point, when all working right?

What's about latest card dirvers?

Did you tried running GG just with stock stuff?

Had you wrote some script to bypass that issue? something like:

Just kidding mate.

Finally you've the "Green button", AMD has change something regard their soft, but not sure it has something to do.

so now im back from my vacation i decided to try fix my issue again and finally solved it.
for anyone who may get a similar issue mine was fixed by completely uninstalling my graphics card driver and restarting my PC, then installing the driver again and 1 more restart later and everything was working.
*note* it's important to uninstall the driver first as simply downloading the latest and trying to install it over the top didn't fix the issue.

weirdly enough device manager in windows was reporting no issues and every game i have installed still played perfectly normal (before the uninstall/reinstall of the driver), it was only GG that was having issues.
i did manage to find GPU-Z which was telling me my card was having issues with OpenCL (and/or OpenGL, i dont know what these are) which ultimately led me to the solution.
