What is the logic of the game continuing to run while a video is being shown via a Story Zone? How can the player be expected to keep playing the game while the video is playing?

What about using a script that does freezeai and freezeplayer, then unfreezes after it returns back? Just spitballing, not sure if that'd do what you're looking for or not.

Thanks. That's what I ended up doing. I think it fixed it, but I don't know why this isn't built into the original script.

Because someone just didn't think about it when they wrote the script? Probably just an oversight, any chance you can post your changes so I can update mine please?

I can't duplicate this problem. In my testing the player cannot move or be harmed, and the AI does not move while a video is playing.
What I have found is that if I enter a StoryZone while AI is firing, the gun sounds continue to play for the duration of the video.

Both of these behave the same for me:

yes as wermer said, the AI just have a bug in that if they are firing when "frozen" they will continue to fire.. i believe it's because the gun is treated as a separate entity and isn't included in the "freezing" code.
a quick fix might be to use the command to hide the enemy weapons when you freeze them - can't remember the name but i believe it's SetAttachmentVisible(e,0)

I think it's only a standalone problem.
