Hi,

I went and converted the texture pictured here: into a .DDS so I could use it in my level. I watched the following instructions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AU_NvdKXNpg and converted the file via Paint.net

However, the image comes up as a PDF Adobe file and therefore, does not work when I go into my level editor and select #6 (which is the texture option in 3D edit mode). It instead uses the default Paint Ground texture.

So, how can I correct this file so I can use it as one of my textures? How do I switch it from PDF Adobe to the appropriate file?

Thank you!

Did you install the .dds plug in for paint.net, and did you turn it on?

As far as I know I did. I selected the .dds option when I saved it. According to the video link I posted above Paint.net doesn't require a plug in for .dds. But when I click and dragged it to my desktop it appeared as an Adobe PDF file. I have a feeling it may have been when I selected PDF in the "open as" window that popped up so it may have been an error on my part.

I really hope to fix it as I'm really on a roll with GG. Just mastered the art of the waypoint and I'm looking into getting familiar with Blender in the next couple days.

Thanks

Recheck it and be sure. Maybe re save it again.

If you're creating textures i'd highly recommend using GIMP, it's a free opens source graphics package loosely based on photoshop, you'll need a couple of plugins to export dds, but it works amazingly well..

GIMP: http://www.gimp.org/
.dds plugin: https://code.google.com/p/gimp-dds/
normalmap plugin (for when you start creating textures for 3d models): https://code.google.com/p/gimp-normalmap/

each of the plugins has a readme file, make sure you read it and follow the installation instructions.

Blender can be a little tricky to get used to, it's control method is very depending on shortcut keys (Num1 for top view, Num3 for right side view, and so forth), but once you get used to that it's pretty easy to use and for a free modelling software is surprisingly comparable to some of the top named 3d software packages.

I highly recommend Unfamilia's blender video tutorial, he takes you through creating a model from scratch in blender, to sing GIMP to create the .dds files and finally to export the final product and import it into GameGuru. He does this very well, explaining everything he does, including what keys he presses and everything. I'm currently going through them one per night (practicing each step a few times before moving on to the next one on the next night) and i'm just starting number 5, so far I've learnt so much in a short time from him, big props to Unfamia, he's da man, he's da J man

Here's a link tot he forum post here that lists his videos.

Maybe you have accidently re - associated the file ....

Right click on the texture ...select " Open With" ...Select Gimp .... Tick " Always open this file type "
See if that re associates it ?
