Fantastic Synchromesh, laughed my socks off at the flat charaters. This must have taken ages to do. Takes me back to my lost youth.

A few weeks ago, I was working on a Doom clone.
Until I placed some enemies inside.... Yes, they don't move on platforms or other things.
You can make great Doom styled levels with GG , but I think I've to wait until The npc AI work from the vote list is done

Nice job! You could add an animated shader on the characters to animate them. AI could be an issue as mentioned, it always has issues in contained rooms or corridors. Perhaps if the roof were separate, with no collision it would work.

I'll be honest though, Doom was never my bag and I couldn't really see what the fuss was about at the time. Nice engine, but I was bored very quickly. I felt the same way about the original Wolfenstein 3D. I did like Duke Nukem, as it was more entertaining: Even that, I never really played for long though. Prefer my games to have a plot and some other things to do, other than shoot I guess

The music was great of course!

Quake is still my all-time favourite FPS game of all-time, with Duke Nukem 3D a close second. Have joined the Oculus forums recently and someone has been working on a VR Quake. Awesome! Also gave a shameless plug to GameGuru because until recently there was a VR flag somewhere but it was disabled a few builds back. Hopefully we're going to see VR gaming returning to GameGuru soon after the performance updates have been implemented, should be able to get a high enough framerate on Oculus Rift minimum spec PCs to make it viable.

It's going to be VERY easy to sell FPS games in VR-O-Vision early on, particularly survival horror or horror games.

@Syncromesh. This is brilliant!!! Think you could "center" align the shotgun, like below and include the traditional hud?

@Dvader, you're right. That'd be awesome to apply an animated shader.

@Snowdog, yeah it's a little saddening that Oculus support was removed. It was FPSCR at the time and only the Oculus DK1 was supported. BUT you can use VorpX to "force" DK2 support on current GameGuru builds, it's not 100% but does do a good job. I recently sold my DK2 (I miss it so much) and set the money aside for when HTC Vive is released. I do believe the Vive is going to be a stronger contender in the VR gaming arena because it has Steam behind it.

I don't know, I think that Vive may struggle a bit more compared to Oculus Rift despite the earlier release and having Steam behind it because it's going to be more expensive. You also have to remember that there's already plenty of software available for the Oculus Rift and has been for quite some time, and developers have had Oculus Rift devkits for longer.

Of course if Valve have Half-life 3 available for launch all of that will go straight out of the window lololol

Too bad you cant do the HUD or have those characters work. Still a great presentation. Nice work on the textures and alpha channels.

The main problem with Vive as I have heard it, is you need a huge empty room to use it properly. Not many will have this option. I think TGC will revisit the VR area in time, but really have to focus on the actual engine for now. Perhaps by then there will be a clear option to take.

Very cool

Spent/wasted many many hours on Doom and Quake back in the day. Still got them...

As I recall, I think there was a map/world builder for Quake then, good times

You could use the RotateToPlayer command on those "billboard" characters to give it a slightly better effect. They'll look more like sprites then.

I agree with Landman. I did a test with it using an Elder Scroll sprite and it looked pretty good as it rotates with you like a decal would normally.
