What is the difference between the proposed video textures and the existing animated decal system?

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I think a decal is an image with an alpha channel (on a plane) applied in the editor (or in game via script or the engine itself), but not actually mapped to an object, and a texture is simply mapped to a mesh. The video texture would allow for many other options, like a television, movie screen, or a monitor that feeds from a remote camera (provided we get additional cameras; think security system). I'm sure there are many other possibilities (Predator?).

Video textures can be mapped onto an entity, did some a bit ago with a burning skin for a character for example. You could even alt texture these so the video texture would play on death or whatever. I found these have a lot of uses.

In this video I used two video textures which switched out when the character took a hit.

Don't know who suggested it for voting but would expect this sort of thing a little further into development, it is pretty cool all the same to play around with. I wouldn't expect to to do characters out of the box like this with GG as the character shader is required for bone animations so they couldn't be applied without some major shader editing.

Me, I was asking for this feature many months ago
I remember in FPSclassic there was somthing like this.
You could do a lot of nice things with videotextures (+ have sound), more than with decals.

Build a cinema, TVs, big screens in a Blade Runner styled city
Endless options
