Scenario:
I shoot a soldier directly in the face while zoomed in with a sniper. It seems like the goes right through. No indication that this shot hit.
The second shot hits and the soldier drops like he should. This happens EVERY time without fail and from any distance.

Is it because the base 100 health is too high and the hit is actually registered, but giving no indication of the hit?
is it because there is a single hitbox around the "characters" and only having a death triggered gives any reaction from hits?
Is this a bug with the sniper rifle engine code or the sniper weapon script?
All of the above? (<---this is what it feels like)

Is there a way to force them to die on a headshot regardless of the health amount we give them?

Even with the pistol, headshots do not seem to really register somehow. 3 body hits, 3 head hits.
Only at close range you see blood splatters.

Any information on any of the questions above is highly appreciated. Especially if I am able to manipulate all this in the scripts!

I've experienced the same issue with the sniper rifle so you are not alone. AI and hitboxes seem to be very early stages because I keep running into issues with both.

the sniper rifle does 90 damage and default HP is 100 so 1 hit is not a kill.
this is so that headshots are still valuable even with the sniper rifle (that was Lee's explanation on the changes) but it's not very precise, try aiming above the head, im pretty sure i've had a few accidental headshots but it's not something i've tested so i may be wrong and they aren't actually working yet.

Thanks for the quick replies gentlemen

I figured the sniper does less that 100. This means that the ai script doesnt take effect when it should either because it says something about if health is lower than XXX than move to cover.............but the "dudes" never move.

What I am looking for is the ability to change how this works and force a headshot to be instakill no matter what health the "dude" has. Achieving this by reducing health to 90 would be sad in some way.

Deadend?

You can change the damage rating of the guns in their properties setting.
If you set damage of the sniper rifle to greater than 100, then you will kill them with 1 shot.
I may be old, but at least my memory still ....hmmm

Yeah I could do that but then a shot in the foot is a kill too. I want only headshots having the Golden Gun effect

I don't think the characters are set up for limb detection yet. I have an old Classic character that I converted back in the Reloaded days (female explorer) that still has limb data for her head in the fpe. I don't know if it's a matter of referencing that info in the .lua script, though. She, for some reason, is invincible, with or without that line in the fpe.

That's too bad. I'll have to settle with raising the power of the weapon instead for the time being.

Thanks for helping me figure this out guys it is much appreciated!
