After I was reading another threat here, I was a bit surprised about the age of the game makers.
I mean it's really great to read that people at 77, 78, 60.... Are making games.
So maybe it's time to ask the GG users: how old are you?
Sure, nobody has to reply, but hey, wouldn't it be interesting?

Me: exactly in 4 months 40

I have one, too, and I'm 48! I think it's because Lara Croft looks better as she gets older, LOL. I started my first game in the late 70s, in the 6th grade, on a terminal with no video display (dot matrix printer). Text-based game, obviously. It was a complete rip-off of "The Oregon Trail", only mine took place in space. (Battlestar Gallactica was on tv at the time, which is probably where I got the idea. I almost finished it in the 7th grade. (Computer time was scarce when there were only two terminals for the entire school!)

30 here. I was introduced to the TGC products in 2002/2003 by my father who was using Dark Basic. First game I ever made was constructed by using ASCII characters in DOS in 1995.

Lara is not getting older... She gets younger with every new game btw. I still have the latest PC Lara game here untouched... I bought it? 2 years ago? Hahaha

Tom, you made some C64 or Amiga games before?

same here

my first gaming experience was in the 90's with an atari 520ST. many things here nobody will believe when you tell. younger people can't understand how we could play a game that just had like four pixels and we still had fun with it when i show my wife games like "stunt car racer" or "shuffle puck" i tell her when i was a kid i was playing this kinda hard. she is looking at me like "you are crazy." for my own lifetime story f.e. "doom" is not an old game, it's rather a new game but when my 18year old neighbor comes over to play and i show him some doom he's always laughing at me and saying: "you could really take this game seriously???"
in the new wolfenstein you can play 9 easter egg- "nightmare levels" wich are actually the levels from the first mission of wolfenstein 3d and it's shocking how crappy this game looks when you look at it now.
this is when you realize you have become older.

great thread

Yes, I made some personal C64 games. I still have two C64 machines and all my original disks with most of my projects on them. Some games were lost years ago when disks got corrupted, but I have most of it.

42 here and started programming on an Amiga 500 in Lattice C created some cool 2d stuff but never got the hang of 3d as it was way too difficult at the time for me to grasp!! Alas time slipped away and by the time I got back into programming Visual studio was out and the native language was c++ and it was way too exspensive for me at the time, so I just didn't bother after that. VS Express is free of course now but I've been out of the scene for too long what with children and work. That's why I love GG as it does all the hard work for me, I could of course write my own scripts as LUA is fairly easy to grasp and there are always plenty of people ready to help if I get stuck??

Aww heck! I'm the youngest in all aspects of my social life and now I'm among the toddlergroup with my videogame hobby aswell?!
I assume that so many of you where younger than me yet some of you could be my father.

@Gtox: Come on! You know me long enough to know that if I jest, my punchlines are usually better
But seriously, what made you think that?

According to the most recent ESA survey, the average age of people who play video games is around 31, with nearly 40% over the age of 35, so it's probably not a surprise to see so many , er, um, 'mature' people involved in the creation of games.

I have mentioned it before in an other thread but I turned 78 in April of 2015.
Long story short ... I bought my first computer in 1977 (Tandy TRS-80). I knew nothing about computers and had no idea what I was going to do with it, but it seem like something I just had to have. The TRS-80 (Z80 chip) had a keyboard which held the ram(4k) and all of the CPU stuff , a b/w monitor, and a cassette player to save programs. It also had an early version of basic. Packed it up along with a paperback book on basic, rented a cabin on the Oregon coast and figured out how to program a simple slot machine, cherries, plums and oranges and the rest is history.

Just turned 19 last february, haha. Guess I have all of you guys beat! Finished my freshman year at university a few weeks ago. Granted I havent had so much time to do game making or 3d the last few years because of things going on in my life like school and hanging with friends and work but I still find time to pursue my little hobby and pop up around here once a while.

I remember picking up FPSC when I was like 13-14 though and if you browse through some of my old threads on the old forums you can see a lot of my attempts at learning how to model and make games throughout the years. I have a big laugh at some of them sometimes!

I made my turbosquid account when I was a freshman in highschool, lol. Still selling the same media I made from back then (somehow... lol.) I will probably make a newer account with more updated and quality media one of these days...

One of my (many) projects but the only one that got the farthest was this one:

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=173550&b=25

the memories

And I too am a bit in awe of the age group here! I thought thered be many more people closer to my age

1977... I was 2 years old
Your store items look really nice.

Really, 78 years old (?) and like to create games and 3D models, well m2design, you are my hero.
I mean it honest, this is really great.
I hope that I will do something similar when I'm 78.

Maybe when I'm 78, I'll create holodeck games... hmhhmmm

@Mookai
Thanks
I'll be sure to check back when I turn 80 (if I can remember)
My interest at present is exploring adventure game concepts and providing models to the store. I am waiting for GG to add a few more functions before I jump in with both feet.
I am giving serious consideration to a non shoot-um up that the players goal is to find and collect items that will allow travel to additional worlds on adjacent islands.

62 just qualified for social security lol I old enough to remember the first home computer that got me excited enough to explore computers. The Apple was the first real good one. I really got into some programming when the Amiga cam eout, wrote a mouse driven game which was pretty cool. Put it on website and just asked for donations if they liked it, made about $1100. I really miss that Amiga basic language.

Nice to see old people here . I am 70 . Spent most of my life doing the MC (motorcycle) thing . GG is very relaxing for me , was always interested in how games and things were done . First PC was Atari 400/800 . Still have them stored away .. Bought them in the early 80's while trying to turn myself around , which took another 20+ years ...

Just turned 50, man I can't believe I'm saying that.
I started in 1979 with the Timex Sinclair 1000 , 13 inch B/W TV and a radio shack tape recorder.
I have only recently felt a sense of accomplish when I coded the Physics ragdoll for Reloaded/GG.(check the credits)
It is a great feeling to see so many people using code I slaved over.
I have recently developed some other great physics features that I would like to see in GG but I am waiting for Lee to get back to me on this. I have a great destruction physics system that I developed which could be added to GG.
Check out my youtube channel.

The coffee is lovely dark and deep, and I have code to write before I sleep.

For me it is simply a hobby, and a way of relaxation. Lol, learning Lua, playing with textures and skyboxes, and hopefully play with modelling soon - yeah that's relaxing. As @Wolf said "Beats the hell out of television!"

I also enjoy just helping others out when possible with any knowhow or whatever I can give. But being completely new to 3D I am completely limited in that area at the present.

@m2Design, your image looks great!

Like you, I'm not interested in making shooters either. I had a similar thing in mind. Like a puzzle mystery where you collect the clues to get to next level. The ultimate goal is to find a lost civilization or a secret garden paradise or something.

We need a lot more features in GG to be able to do that, especially in the standalone game department. Like ability to save progress, choose levels etc.

So until then it's just play around with level design and learning (oh, sorry, relaxing!)

Still 78 and still working on entity creation for island adventures. Most of the entities shown in the images are now available in the store.
I have been working on palm trees for awhile, still have a couple more to add (With coconuts). All of the palms displayed are custom.

Just kind of whiling away my time waiting for the ability to keep inventory of items picked up so the player can earn the right to be transported to other islands.
