I'll be using this thread to introduce any new mammal models I add to the store. The first is an animated bat model. Suitable for trees, rather than caves (an experienced scripter could get the bats cave ready, but the existing script is suited for trees). Place the bats in the foliage of a tree , and when you approach, they will all fly away (you don't have to place them too accurately, as they fly away before you get close enough to see whether or not their feet match the branches). After a while, the bats return to same position. There is second LOD stage of just under 500 polys, so you can throw quite a few into your scene.

@ Ertlov - if you insist
I should mention that by default the model is at ground level, so hold 'page up' for a bit to raise it, hold shift, place the model, rotate once or twice, repeat 50 times and you'll have a tree full of bats. If you have OCD you can place them so that the feet match the tree branches (the default pose is horizontal, but the feet in the roosting pose will match the centre of the back in default pose, so you just need to place the bat's back against the underside of a branch), but that would be tedious.

This is fantastic work. How much time have you put into the scripting and animating? Seriously some good stuff. What mammals are you planing on creating next?

Thanks teamhalo - this model and script went surprisingly quickly, about 3 days of not very hard labour. I'm planning on doing a leopard next, and then I'll probably go back to the smaller stuff.

I should also mention that I made no provision for sounds in the script, mostly because I couldn't find any flapping or bat squeaking sounds that seemed appropriate (also, bats are fairly quiet, so it didn't seem too important). However, if someone does find sounds that they'd like to include, let me know and I'll modify the script accordingly.

I've been fairly lazy lately (the blame can be laid entirely at the feet of the Steam summer sale), but I've just about finished the mesh & texture of the leopard. Next, the animation, and then the challenge of doing a realistic behaviour script.

A moose is a quite a weird-looking creature - good luck with it.

Nice leopard.
Are you working in a tiger?
prefereable from Bengala, they are the most beautiful, at leats for me.
Of course he has to attack the player an be killable.

@3com - in theory, turning a leopard into a tiger is just a case of retexturing and resizing. The behaviour is essentially the same, so the script that I'm planning for the leopard should work for a tiger too.

Waiting for store approval on the leopard (had to make some animation adjustments after the first submission), which will hopefully be fairly soon. Here is a teaser video in the interim.

While I wait for that, I'm busy turning the leopard into a tiger. I'm just about done with the texture, but I'll need to make a few adjustments to the mesh (tigers have quite chubby cheeks, for example) and the script.

Thanks - I tried to make the behaviour fairly realistic (if you turn your back on the leopard it will slowly stalk you and then attack). I think if you have long grass and you don't know that there's a leopard there it could get quite exciting.

@Inertia - lol, the approval process is pretty slow at the moment, and if there is an issue it takes days before it's looked at again, so it could be a while yet.

The leopard is now available in the store. The tiger should be finished by this weekend, and once it's in the store I'll put it in a mini-pack with the leopard, at a slightly cheaper price than if you bought them individually. So, if you want both, just wait a little while.
I've also attached an alternate texture (turning the leopard into a panther). Just put the files into the folder with the leopard.x file.

I forgot to mention that the leopard follows waypoints (thanks to smallg for integrating the waypoint code into the script, and for providing the code to check whether or not the player can see the leopard).
