Hello does anybody else notice in Guru lights only turning on when you are up close to the light? Its like a effect of a switch when you walk close to the light. Instead of the light being activated at all times from a distance, the light on turns on when the player is close to the light. I'm testing some lighting and I am curious how to change this effect.

How many lights are there close to the player? If there a lot in a small area this will happen, you could try changing light range from 500 to say 1000

This has something to do with the culling. For more information a dev must answer this.

Evene a higher range shouldn´t change anything.
My dream is to develope games, which makes fun when I create it and fun when other people play it.

those are dynamic lights and only 4 can be on at any one time at the moment. real time render mode

If you want solid light from a great distance, and are going to use Light mapping, then use static lights instead, and up there range x 3 times at least. turn the saturation down and when testing do an F3 light map to see them. While editing they will show you the range and the intensity, when you choose them for edit.

When you get your level at a good spot, then do a F4 light mapping and then see how it looks.

Remember after any light mapping and you want to make changes to your level, go back to real time render, or your stuff wont reflect your new changes.

Yes, when the light mapper gets more work this should go back to the direct x limit of 8. Still mixing this with static lights will be the best bet to enhance the look of the scene.

I have found that if I mix static and dynamic lights only the static light show when baked, I don't see the dynamics lights.... is it a case of one or the other, not both types of lighting?

That is not the case, dynamic lights show in either mode, What is the range of the dynamic light verses the static light you are trying to use in combination?

You can test this out by placing some room, set a static light and make it yellow, set its range to 1000. Move it to a corner.
Now place a dynamic light in the opposite corner. Make it red.

Place a box in the middle of the room.
Set a start marker.

Run test game and do a F4 lightmap on the level.
When that is complete, then go into the metric mode (tab tab) and here is what controls what.
Shadows slider controls the amount of the baked process to show thru. Turning this up will enhance the static light bake on the level.

Adjust the ambient level down a bit till you can just make out detail in the shadows.
Adjust the surface level to bring out detail in the objects.

playing with these settings will give you a balance between static baked and dynamic real time.

Now look in the room and notice how the lights are distributed. and the shadows.
Readjust the lights if needed to enhance the lighting.
