About the project

Draug is the working title of a project that derives from an idea of mine that I began developing in 2008. Now in 2015, with the great tool Gameguru, the project is finally beginning to take form. However it is still in the early stages of development, but we will try to update here as often we can.

The project is currently being dev by:
Slaur3n - Story, leveldesign, concept art
Nomis3d - Modelling, animations
Kenneth Fylkesnes - Music & sound

The legend

The idea is based on the legend of the sea Draug from Norse mythology.

The Old Norse word Draug translates to revenant, which is a visible ghost or animated corpse that returns from the grave to terrorize the living.

The Draug was a representation of all those lost at sea.

The plot

Will not post this yet

Genre

Story-driven horror survival game.

Early ingame screenshots

As the tempest rolls over the ocean
And the dark lies over the sea
A dark figure rows its shattered boat
Straight ahead of me

Empty eyes looking up
Not sure if they can see
Then I hear a piercing wail
And it’s looking straight at me

I freeze and stare
I am petrified, what can this creature be?
His face I see, I know it must be
The Draug has come for me

Its eyes are burning
His motions are fierce
All his tortured souls are yearning
For me to join their screams

He is taking me now
Down to the depths
And he will make me bow
My heart is lost at sea

A part of him is what I have become
It is my turn now to hunt in the night
As the tempest rolls over the ocean
And the dark lies over the sea.

This is looking very nice Slaur3n.

I think you have nailed the atmosphere. I read the story first and the screenshots do it justice.

Good work, to the pair of you.

Just for my own sanity, how do I say Draug phonetically? I am currently saying, "drawg".

Cheers

Jay.

A little update..
Adding enterable houses in the game. They are inspired by old houses from Skudeneshavn, Norway.
Btw, the trees are not done

I would definitely change the title since there is already a game called Draugen about the same thing. I know both games are pulling from the same myth so I would just change the title to not confuse the audience. Great work BTW!

My problem however is that the screenshots from here and on there look very similar, right down to the slider settings. I am entirely happy that the project was started from scratch. In most instances even the rock placement look exactly the same, however that said, it's just my personal opinion from what I can see.

There are similarities a couple of places yes, i was allowed to do so. But the slider settings are very different.
But you are making your opinions from one screenshot that looks similar.

Here they are.

I definitely like the new name and new screenshots. I'm really digging the creature as well. Again, great job!
