hi! [i hope this is the right thread here]
i would like to know what kind of video capturing software you would suggest to make gameplay videos? at the moment i use the afterburner software but i'm not happy at all because it often crashes and the videos get lost every time. i would like to find a free alternative but i can't find anything. does anyone know more and have an idea?

I'm using fraps since a long time. Good for recording gameplay. But it costs frames, so for gameguru vids, well ... Not really perfect. But I see u have a nvidia card. So you should try shadowplay from nvidia, it's free
Old school FPS fan, DOOM!!! Why GG not working on my AMIGA 500?

There are a lot of free alternatives. Just google it. For example there is a free old version of fraps.
I tried a lot of free alternatives and then I ended by a software from a indi developer. I didnĀ“t find a link to his side.
Here is a link to recoding software. Sorry it is in german

No, it works with video too. It even works with video capture cards also.

If you ever find yourself having the money, I would say Action!(on steam) is worth getting. I tried free alternatives but in the end it was just easier to buy one and Action is known for its easy user-friendliness.

Camtasia is my choice. I purchased the AVS4You pack and it has some screen recording software however I found the audio didn't line up (could have been the settings). So I did some research and Camtasia stood out. Not the cheapest one on the market however for me it works well.

Once again I cam recommend Bandicam, FREE, if you don't mind the watermark, I bought a licence which removes the watermarking and allows more options and auto update too.

I use bandicam as its able to detect the DirectX window and record from it directly. It alternatively allows you to record from the screen based on a box you draw on it. But I like that its able to detect various games and even Game-Guru itself (DirectX).

I haven't played with Shadow play too much. I can't get Nvidia to add Game Guru to the list of games.

After using all the rest of the things listed here, I find OBS (Open Broadcast Software) to be the best. I've never run into a game it didnt properly record and I had a gaming youtube channel going for a while. The software is free too. It definately blows fraps out of the water.

You can record static or stream with it and theres a ton of settings videos for both on yourtube. Very easy set up.
The only stupid questions are those that were never asked.
