How about some control of auto flatten . Area around 'building' and or depth of area to be flattened . The depth can come in useful if someone actually wants to have a lower section of a building to be below ground .

Pressing the U key toggle that feature right now. You could use the page down key before applying the position. It has a pretty wide area around it, so practice an a blank map first.
